AI Toolbox review: a $59 licence that covers what costs $199 direct, if your emails match

AI Toolbox is a Chrome and Edge extension that adds folders, full-text search, a prompt library and bulk export to ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini and Grok. AppSumo sells one licence for $59 once. What it covers, how it compares with the $199 All Access plan, and what buyers report.

Bottom line: AI Toolbox is a browser extension, formerly called ChatGPT Toolbox, that adds folders, full-text search, a prompt library, bookmarks and bulk export to the web versions of ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini and Grok. On AppSumo it sells a single licence, License Tier 1, for $59 once, with every card feature marked “Unlimited” and “4 toolboxes in 1 unified license.” AI Toolbox’s own site charges $199 once for All Access Lifetime, which covers the same four platforms, or $99 once per platform. So the deal is cheap. The catch most people miss: the licence unlocks the extension for the email you sign in with on each AI site, and buyers whose emails don’t match see the free plan. It’s refundable up to 60 days, and the listing says “Plus members are covered by our We Got Your Back guarantee.”

Best for: freelancers, writers, marketers and researchers who live in two or more AI chat tools in Chrome or Edge and keep losing old conversations.

Think twice if: you use the desktop or phone apps rather than the browser, you work in Safari or Firefox, or you need one folder tree that spans every AI today.

Updated 29 October 2026. This AI Toolbox review rests on what we read that day: the AI Toolbox listing on AppSumo, including the plan card, the deal terms, the FAQs, questions and reviews, and AI Toolbox’s own pricing page with its plan table and FAQ. We haven’t installed the extension, so we describe the plans, the limits and what buyers report, not how fast it indexes.

What AI Toolbox does

AI Toolbox sits inside the AI sites you already use. You keep your own ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini and Grok accounts; the extension adds tools around them. Its own FAQ puts it plainly: these are “modules of our browser extension,” not subscriptions to the AIs themselves.

The AppSumo plan card lists these as “Unlimited”:

  • Organising: folders and subfolders, pinning, message bookmarks, a labels dashboard and a media gallery.
  • Prompts: a “Library with 1,000+ expert prompts,” custom saved prompts with `{{variable}}` placeholders, and prompt chaining for multi-step workflows.
  • Clean-up: bulk export, bulk delete and bulk archive.

The expanded card adds full-text search, conversation auto-categorisation (its “smart tags”), all export formats, sync across devices and browsers, automatic watermark removal, and “4 toolboxes in 1 unified license.”

The listing’s overview fills in the detail. You type `//` to insert a saved prompt, chain up to 10 steps, and type `@@` to pull an earlier chat into a new one. Exports go to TXT, Markdown, JSON or PDF, and a whole folder or ChatGPT project can leave as a ZIP. On Claude and Gemini it adds a context-window gauge so long chats don’t hit the limit unexpectedly. On Gemini it says it strips the AI watermark from generated images on download.

The company behind it is small. The listing shows the founder’s account as ladi500, a 2024 start in Israel, “1-10 ppl,” startup and bootstrapped. The FAQ names two co-founders, Adi Leviim and Mohammad El-Esawi, and it’s El-Esawi who answers almost every review and question on the listing.

The one thing most people miss: the email has to match

Here’s the detail that causes the most trouble, and it’s not on the plan card. The licence is tied to the email address you’re signed in with on each AI site.

In October 2026 a buyer wrote that ChatGPT kept asking them to upgrade, as if their AppSumo code had never been applied. The founder answered on 11 October: “Your AppSumo license unlocks AI Toolbox for the email you’re signed in with on each assistant.” If the email you used at activation differs from the one on ChatGPT, “ChatGPT shows the free plan and asks you to upgrade, even though your license is active.” The fix is an email to support with your AppSumo email, the email you use on ChatGPT, Claude and Gemini, and your X handle if you use Grok.

A July 2026 reviewer hit the same wall. They activated with a different email, it didn’t work, and support corrected it quickly.

In practice, this matters most if you’ve got a work Google account on Gemini, a personal email on ChatGPT and a company login on Claude. Write down every login before you activate. Don’t forget the X handle for Grok, which isn’t an email at all.

Browser-only, and per-platform today

Two more limits shape who this suits.

It only runs in the browser. A July 2026 reviewer noted it “only integrates with the web versions of AI platforms, not their installed native apps.” The founder agreed and said native desktop apps don’t allow extensions. The workaround is installing ChatGPT or Claude as a web app from Chrome, which the founder says the extension supports fully. The listing names Chrome and Edge. If you’ve built your day around the ChatGPT desktop app, skip the deal.

Folders and tags were per platform when buyers wrote. A July 2026 review said the interface differs on each AI and “there are no global folders, no global tags,” so you rebuild them on every platform. The founder’s reply on 30 July said cross-platform folders, cross-platform smart tags and a shared prompt library were in the “working on now” section of the public roadmap. Turns out AI Toolbox’s own pricing page, read on 29 October, now lists “One folder tree for every AI” and “One prompt library for every AI” as cross-platform features. We couldn’t confirm from the pages whether those shipped in full for AppSumo licences, so check it inside the refund window.

Try the free plan first?

Most people miss that AI Toolbox has a free tier, and it’s a sensible rehearsal before you spend $59. According to the vendor’s pricing page, free users get 2 folders with subfolders, 2 bookmarks, 10 personal saved prompts, the first 25 results of every full-text search, TXT export of any single chat, the full Prompt Library and a preview of search across all four AIs showing the 5 newest matches. It never expires.

That’s enough to learn the layout. It isn’t enough to judge the paid product. Two folders won’t hold a real filing system, and a search capped at 25 hits tells you little about whether a three-year ChatGPT history indexes cleanly. When you install the free version, spend an afternoon finding the floating button, the `//` prompt menu and the search shortcut. One July reviewer admitted their first impression was lukewarm because “it wasn’t immediately clear what it could do or how to launch it.” Learning that for free means your 60-day refund clock is spent on the questions that matter, like indexing and email matching, rather than on finding menus.

Don’t forget one wrinkle. If you’ve installed the free version under one email and then activate the AppSumo licence under another, you’ll recreate the mismatch problem described above.

The plan and AI Toolbox’s own prices

There’s only one plan on AppSumo, and the terms say “This deal cannot be upgraded or downgraded between license tiers” and “No codes, no stacking.”

PlanPriceIncludes
License Tier 1
Anyone using two or more AI chats
$59 once ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini and Grok in one licence, Unlimited folders, prompts, bookmarks and bulk export, Full-text search and smart tags

One-time price on AppSumo; one tier, no stacking. AI Toolbox's own site lists Free, $9.99 a month or $59 a year per platform, Lifetime $99 once per platform, All Access Lifetime $199 once for all four, and Teams from $12 a seat a month, with a 14-day money-back guarantee that is void after heavy export use.

Prices checked Oct 29, 2026 on AI Toolbox’s own pricing page. Lifetime deals are listings that can end or change, so check the live listing before you buy.

AI Toolbox’s own pricing page, read on 29 October 2026:

AI Toolbox’s own planPriceCovers
Free$02 folders, 2 bookmarks, 10 saved prompts, first 25 search results
Monthly$9.99 a monthOne platform
Annual$59 a yearOne platform
Lifetime$99 onceOne platform
All Access Lifetime$199 onceChatGPT, Gemini, Claude and Grok, plus future modules
Teams$12 a seat a month billed annually, or $15 monthlyAll four, minimum 2 seats

The site shows Lifetime as “$123” struck through to $99, and All Access as “$396” struck through to $199; the $396 is its own sum of four single Lifetimes. The AppSumo listing showed no struck-through price for the deal when we read it.

What does the $59 licence map to?

The deal terms promise “All future Premium Plan updates.” AI Toolbox’s pricing page doesn’t list a plan called Premium; it lists Free, Monthly, Annual, Lifetime, All Access Lifetime and Teams. The AppSumo FAQs use “Premium users” as the name for anyone paying, for instance “Premium users have unlimited folders.” The card’s “4 toolboxes in 1 unified license” reads like All Access, and the listing’s FAQ says “future platforms will join your account automatically when added.” Honestly, the most reasonable reading is that the deal behaves like All Access Lifetime, but the terms never say so by name. Ask support before day 60, and keep the answer.

Worked examples: what you’d pay direct

These sums use only the prices on the two pages.

ChatGPT only. Direct, the Annual plan is $59 a year and Lifetime is $99 once. The AppSumo licence costs the same as one year of Annual and covers the other three platforms too. Monthly at $9.99 passes $59 in the sixth month. If you’ve used a ChatGPT folder extension for more than half a year, the deal pays for itself on that alone.

ChatGPT and Claude. Two single Lifetimes direct are $198, and All Access is $199. The deal is $59, so you save $140 against the cheapest direct route that covers both.

All four platforms. All Access at $199 once against $59 once. That’s the gap that makes this deal worth reading carefully, as long as the “Premium” wording maps the way it appears to.

A three-person team. Teams billed annually is $12 a seat a month, so 3 x 12 x 12 = $432 a year, with a shared team prompt library and an admin dashboard. Three AppSumo licences would be $177 once, but each person needs their own licence matched to their own logins, and we found nothing on the listing about shared libraries or admin controls. When you need those, the Teams plan is the one built for it.

Refunds: AppSumo’s terms are the better ones here

AI Toolbox’s own guarantee is 14 days, and its refund FAQ adds a condition worth knowing. Eligibility is void “when the service has been used extensively during the 14-day window (for example, exporting more than 50 conversations in total, or more than 25 in one export).” Bulk export is one of the first things people try, so that rule bites. If you’ve got 400 ChatGPT chats, a single archive run would void the direct refund on its own.

On AppSumo the listing reads “Refundable up to 60 days.” That’s four times the window, with no export condition shown on the listing. If you’re testing whether bulk export suits your history, this is the safer place to do it.

Privacy: two FAQ answers that disagree

An extension that reads every chat deserves a careful look here, and the listing’s own FAQs don’t fully agree with each other.

One FAQ answer says AI Toolbox “stores all data locally in your browser. Nothing is sent to external servers.” A second, more detailed answer on the same listing says conversations stay in your browser, but “organisational metadata (folders, saved prompts, bookmarks, tags, and aggregate usage counts) syncs to our backend,” hosted in Frankfurt, Germany. It names sub-processors: DigitalOcean for EU hosting, OpenAI “used only to summarise a single conversation on demand” for the Context Mentions feature, Polar for payments and Zoho for support email.

The founder’s answers in October 2026 match the second version. On 6 October they wrote that three features send a single conversation you choose to their server: “PDF export, summarizing a long chat with @@, and carrying a chat into a new one,” and that it’s “processed and discarded, never stored or logged.” On 7 October they confirmed TXT, Markdown and JSON exports are built in your browser, while PDF exports pass through their server. If you handle client work, use the local formats and skip the `@@` summaries for sensitive chats. Honestly, this is standard for a sync-enabled extension; the issue is only that one FAQ answer overstates it. When you share a machine or work under a confidentiality clause, read the vendor’s privacy policy yourself before installing.

What buyers report

The listing shows 4.15 stars from 20 reviews, 434 bought and 81 questions. The reviews are long and specific, and the founder replies to each one, usually the same day.

Support fixes things fast. An 8 July 2026 review said the support team “responded to my email very quickly” and sorted out early issues; their favourite feature was exporting every chat in one click.

Four specific bugs, all confirmed. A detailed 11 July review listed four problems: prompts only insert at the start of the message box, smart tags miss chats written seconds ago, folders don’t fully load after a refresh, and load time of 4 to 5 seconds on an i9 desktop and about 12 seconds on an i3 or i5 laptop. The reviewer kept the app anyway. The founder replied the same day, called each point real and put caret insertion, folder retries and lighter tag recomputation on the fix list.

Indexing on big accounts. A 27 July reviewer said ChatGPT “never finish indexing” in their case, and that Perplexity isn’t supported. The founder said very large ChatGPT accounts can stop returning the oldest chats, and that a workaround was in development.

A blunt UX review. On 30 July a buyer praised global search and chat management but said the interface felt like separate projects per platform. The founder disagreed on the engineering, agreed on the clutter and pointed to the roadmap.

October questions. On 24 October a buyer said they’d had “no respond on email” after ChatGPT turned their GPTs into Plugins, which then vanished from their folders. The founder replied the next day, apologised for the delay and said AI Toolbox’s folders “currently look up GPTs,” so converted plugins don’t show; support for Plugins was being looked at. On 11 October another buyer asked for a way to hide the floating widget; the founder pointed to a keyboard shortcut and said they’d look at it.

One small mismatch: the listing’s FAQs cite “over 20,000 users” in one answer and “over 30,000 users” in another, with a 4.5/5 Chrome Web Store rating, while AI Toolbox’s own site says “40,000+ users” and 4.7/5. The pages were likely written at different times. In practice, a growing user count matters less than the four-month pattern above: specific bug reports, quick founder replies, and fixes promised rather than shipped by the time we read them.

The terms

The deal terms read:

  • “Lifetime access to AI Toolbox.”
  • “All future Premium Plan updates.”
  • “If Plan name changes, deal will be mapped to the new Plan name with all accompanying updates.”
  • “No codes, no stacking—just choose the plan that’s right for you.”
  • “You must activate your license within 60 days of purchase.”
  • “This deal cannot be upgraded or downgraded between license tiers.”

The guarantee line reads “Plus members are covered by our We Got Your Back guarantee.” The refund line reads “Refundable up to 60 days.” Like every AppSumo deal, this one can end, so don’t assume it’ll still be listed next month.

AI Toolbox vs other ChatGPT folder extensions

AI Toolbox’s own pricing page compares its free tier with three free extensions it names: ChatGPT History, ChatGPT Organizer and Chat Power. That comparison is the vendor’s, not ours, and we didn’t install or check those extensions for this review. The practical difference worth weighing is scope. Most single-purpose folder extensions cover ChatGPT alone, while AI Toolbox’s case rests on covering four AIs under one licence. If you only use ChatGPT and want folders and nothing else, a free tool may be enough; AI Toolbox’s own free plan, with 2 folders and the first 25 search results, is also a fair place to start before paying anything.

Common mistakes with the AI Toolbox deal

Activating with the wrong email. The licence follows the email on each AI site. Match them before you activate.

Buying for desktop or phone apps. It’s a browser extension. Web versions in Chrome or Edge only, or installed web apps.

Expecting one folder tree everywhere on day one. Buyers in July reported per-platform folders and tags; the vendor now advertises cross-platform ones. Check it on your own account.

Using PDF export for sensitive chats. PDF goes through the vendor’s server. TXT, Markdown and JSON stay in your browser.

Leaving activation late. The terms say you must activate within 60 days of purchase. When you leave it until week eight, you’ve also left no time to test.

Assuming you can upgrade later. There’s one tier and no stacking, so a team needs one licence per person.

Who AI Toolbox suits

A freelancer using ChatGPT and Claude daily. Folders by client, search across both, and a prompt library with variables, for less than one platform’s Lifetime direct.

A researcher or writer with years of chats. Full-text search and bulk export are the strongest reasons to buy, though very large ChatGPT accounts may index slowly.

A marketer reusing the same prompts. The `//` prompt library and 10-step chains cut repeated typing.

Anyone on the desktop apps, Safari or Firefox. Skip it.

A team that needs shared prompts and admin controls. Look at the vendor’s Teams plan instead.

How to test it inside the refund window

  1. Activate with the email you use on ChatGPT, then open Claude, Gemini and Grok and check none of them shows the free plan.
  2. Let it index your largest account and search for a phrase from your oldest chat.
  3. Build a folder with chats from two different AIs to see whether one folder tree really spans them.
  4. Bulk export 30 chats as Markdown, then refresh the page a few times and check folders load fully.
  5. Email support asking what “Premium Plan” maps to, and note how long the reply takes.

What we couldn’t check

We didn’t install the extension, time its loading or test indexing. We couldn’t confirm what the “Premium Plan” in the deal terms maps to on AI Toolbox’s own pricing, whether cross-platform folders and tags are live for AppSumo licences, or whether new platforms like Perplexity would be added to an AppSumo licence for free. We also couldn’t reconcile the two FAQ answers on what leaves your browser beyond what the founder wrote in October. Settle these before day 60.

FAQ: AI Toolbox questions

Is AI Toolbox a one-time payment on AppSumo?

Yes. License Tier 1 is $59 once for lifetime access, with no stacking and no tier upgrades.

Does the AppSumo deal cover ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini and Grok?

The plan card says “4 toolboxes in 1 unified license,” and the listing says it adds folders, search and a prompt library to all four.

Why does AI Toolbox still ask me to upgrade after I redeemed it?

Usually an email mismatch. The founder says the licence unlocks the email you’re signed in with on each AI site; support can link the right addresses.

Does AI Toolbox work with the ChatGPT desktop app?

No. It runs in Chromium browsers on the web versions, or inside a site installed as a web app.

The verdict

AI Toolbox fills a gap the AI chat sites still leave open: finding, sorting and exporting old conversations, across four platforms at once. At $59 once against $199 for All Access direct, and with 60 days to get a refund instead of 14, the deal is easy to justify if you work in two or more AI tools in Chrome or Edge. The risks are real, though. The email-matching rule trips buyers up, the reviews describe slow loading and clunky menus, the “Premium Plan” wording needs a written answer, and the rating sits at 4.15. Buy it, activate it carefully, and use the refund window to check the things above.
