AvoMap review: count the credits per video before you count the codes

AvoMap turns a GPS track or a hand-drawn route into an animated 3D map video. AppSumo sells it at $59 a code for 6 render credits a month. 4K and your own logo each cost an extra credit, which decides how many videos a code really makes.

Bottom line: AvoMap is a browser tool that turns a route into an animated map video. You import a GPX or KML file, or draw the route by clicking on the map, mix flights with drives, rides and walks, then export an MP4 at 60 frames per second. On AppSumo it costs $59 a code, and each code gives 6 render credits a month. The editor and the preview are free; you spend credits only when you export. The catch is that extras cost credits too. AvoMap’s own FAQ says a 1080p video is 1 credit, and 4K, logo removal or ten or more custom symbols add 1 credit each. So a branded 4K video is 3 credits, and one code makes two of those a month. The listing is “Not covered by We Got Your Back,” but it is refundable up to 60 days.

Best for: travel creators, hiking and running groups, tour operators and race organisers who need a handful of route videos a month.

Think twice if: you need dozens of branded videos a month, a clickable map for your website, or an API.

Updated 29 October 2026. This AvoMap review rests on what we read that day: the AvoMap listing on AppSumo, including the plan table, the deal terms, 21 reviews and the founder’s answers to buyer questions, and AvoMap’s own pricing page with its credit packages and FAQ. We also read the founder’s About page. We haven’t rendered a video with it, so we describe the plans, the credit costs and what buyers report, not render quality.

What AvoMap does

AvoMap runs in a browser on Windows, macOS, Linux, iOS and Android, with nothing to install. You build a route in segments. Each segment can be a flight, a drive, a bike ride or a walk, and the founder’s site says flights are drawn between 7,695 airports on a 3D globe. You can import a recorded track instead: the listing names GPX and KML, while AvoMap’s own FAQ also lists KMZ, FIT and TCX files and a Strava connection. The preview plays in the editor straight away, and you keep adjusting the camera, the map style and the markers until it looks right. Only the export costs anything, which is handy when you’re still deciding how a route should look.

The feature list on every AppSumo plan is the same:

  • Route input: “Import GPX or KML files,” plus routes you draw by hand.
  • Look: “10 different map styles,” custom colours, a custom route avatar and custom map markers and symbols.
  • Motion: “Full animation control” and an elevation profile.
  • Branding: “White-labeling,” which the listing describes as uploading your logo to replace AvoMap’s.
  • Export: “Export at 60 FPS” and “Export in Full HD or 4K Ultra HD,” in landscape or portrait.

Don’t forget one small mismatch. The AppSumo table says “10 different map styles,” while AvoMap’s own pricing cards say “7 map styles, 4 light presets.” It may be the same set counted differently; we couldn’t tell from the pages.

AvoMap is a one-person company. The About page says the founder, Tobias Cichon, built it after riding a motorbike from Frankfurt to Dubai over 62 days and wanting a better way to show the GPX tracks. The page’s contact note reads “One person reads these, and it is the one who built the thing.” That shows in the listing: almost every question has a reply from the founder’s account.

The credit cost per video: the thing most people miss

Here’s the part most people miss when they read “6 credits a month.” A credit isn’t a video. It’s the base price of one, and options stack on top.

AvoMap’s own FAQ, read on 29 October 2026, says: “Previewing is free. Each export costs render credits: a 1080p video is 1 credit, and 4K, logo removal or ten or more custom symbols add 1 credit each.” The founder said the same thing on the listing in May 2026: one render is one credit for “up to two minutes of video in Full HD,” and 4K, white-labeling or your own logo each add one.

That wasn’t always the price. In September 2025 the founder listed 4K at +2 credits, logo removal at +2, your own logo at +2 and videos over a minute at +1, so a video could cost “anywhere from 1 to 7 credits.” Several of the older questions and the one 1-star review are about that schedule. Turns out the costs have come down since, but the history matters for one reason: the deal terms don’t fix a credit price. If you’ve read an old thread quoting 5 to 7 credits a video, it’s out of date; equally, nothing on the pages stops the schedule changing again.

Picking a plan: worked examples

Each code is 6 credits a month. When you price a plan, start from the video you’ll actually export, not the headline credit count. Here’s what that buys at today’s costs from the FAQ.

Video typeCredits eachVideos a month on 1 codeVideos a month on 3 codes
1080p, AvoMap logo1618
1080p, your logo239
4K, your logo326
4K, your logo, 10+ symbols41 (2 credits left)4 (2 left)

A hiking club posting one recap a week. If you’ve got a club logo you’ll always add, four or five videos a month, each in Full HD with the club’s logo, is 8 to 10 credits. One code falls short; two codes ($118, 12 credits) cover it with a little to spare, and the spare rolls over.

A tour operator with twelve routes to film once. Twelve branded 4K videos is 36 credits. One code takes six months to earn that. Three codes ($177, 18 credits a month) clear the job in two months and then keep paying out 18 credits a month for new tours. Honestly, if you only ever need those twelve videos, AvoMap’s own Pro package, $59 for 50 credits, gets you there on day one.

An agency making client intros. Branded 4K with lots of landmark symbols is 4 credits each. Ten codes ($590, 60 credits a month) makes 15 of those a month. A buyer made this point back in October 2025, and the founder agreed with the sums. Honestly, this is not a tool for very high volume.

In practice, the cheapest way to use the deal is to accept AvoMap’s logo on drafts and personal videos and save your credits for the branded exports that need it.

One-time prices on AppSumo, read 29 October 2026: $59 a code, up to 10 codes ($590, 60 credits a month); each code adds 6 monthly credits. AvoMap's own site sells one-time credit packages with no subscription: Basic $9 for 5 credits, Plus $29 for 20, Pro $59 for 50.

Prices checked Oct 29, 2026 on AvoMap’s own pricing page. Lifetime deals are listings that can end or change, so check the live listing before you buy.

AppSumo sells AvoMap as stackable codes, $59 each, read on 29 October 2026. The plan list runs from 1 code to 10 codes ($590), and the deal terms say “Stack unlimited codes” and “Each additional code = 6 additional monthly credits.” The plan cards we read showed no struck-through price.

AvoMap’s own site has no subscription. It sells credits once:

AvoMap’s own packagePriceCreditsPer credit
Basic$9 once5$1.80
Plus$29 once20$1.45
Pro$59 once50$1.18

Every package lists the same features as the deal, including 4K and logo removal. So the AppSumo code doesn’t unlock anything extra; it changes how you get credits. One $59 code pays out 72 credits in its first year and 144 by the end of the second, about 82 cents and 41 cents a credit. The Pro package is 50 credits, once. A single code passes 50 credits in its ninth month.

That gives a simple rule. If you’ve got a steady, modest need, a few videos every month for years, the code wins comfortably. If you’ve got one project and a deadline, skip the deal and buy a package; you’ll have the credits today rather than over several months. And when you run short on the deal, the founder said in November 2025 that you can buy extra packages on top of your lifetime credits.

What does “All future custom AppSumo plan updates” map to? There’s no vendor plan to map it to, because AvoMap’s own site sells packages, not plans. The deal is its own custom plan, and its updates are whatever AvoMap ships for it.

Credits: rollover, the cap, and one muddled answer

Unused deal credits don’t vanish at the end of the month. In July 2025 the founder wrote: “On the Lifetime Deal, unused credits roll over at the end of the month, up to a maximum of 150 credits.” He repeated it in September 2025 with the same 150 cap, and a January 2026 reviewer on the entry tier calls the rollover “beneficial.”

Two notes. First, in practice 150 credits is 25 months of a single code’s untouched credits, so the cap only bites if you leave a stack idle for a long time. Second, a May 2026 reply on the listing reads “No, credits are good for a whole year,” and the question it answers isn’t visible. The July 2025 answer said purchased extra credits are valid for 12 months, so it may refer to those. Don’t forget to ask support which rule covers your deal credits before you plan to bank them.

What buyers report

The listing shows 4.76 stars from 21 reviews: 19 five-star, one four-star and one one-star. It says 985 people have bought it, and the deal opened on 14 July 2025.

The founder ships requests. An August 2026 reviewer asked to import their own 3D car model and says it was built “in only a couple weeks”; they add that a custom model costs 1 credit the first time and is free to reuse after that.

Easy to start. An August 2026 reviewer who had tried Google’s tools liked that “we can try all the features without losing credits until we render the video.”

Mobile is weaker. Most people miss this one, because the listing’s FAQ says AvoMap is “fully optimized for mobile devices.” A June 2026 reviewer said editing progress “tends to reset” on an iPhone and that they couldn’t download videos there, so they finished on a PC. The founder replied that “the UX is best on a PC at the moment.” The same reviewer called a full credit for a logo a “rip off.”

Missing features, now and earlier. A January 2026 four-star review wanted segment reordering and a GPX upload per segment. Questions through 2025 asked for boats, trains and photo overlays; trains arrived by February 2026 and river routing that month, and in March 2026 the founder said overlays were “100% in the making.” We couldn’t confirm from the listing whether overlays have shipped.

The refund case. The one-star review, from September 2025, asked for a refund over the then 2-credit cost of white-labeling.

What AvoMap doesn’t do

No clickable or hosted map. In October 2025 the founder said AvoMap makes videos, not interactive maps for websites, and that it doesn’t host videos; you upload the MP4 yourself.

No API or MCP server. “There’s no API available at the moment,” he wrote in October 2025, and in July 2026, an MCP server is “not planned for lifetime plans so far.”

One route per video. “Each video shows one route, like A → B → C,” per a November 2025 answer.

No shared credits. Each user needs their own account; a travel club can’t pool credits (September 2025).

Map imagery isn’t the newest. The base maps come from Mapbox, which the founder says “isn’t updated as frequently as Google Maps,” so a brand-new development may not show up.

The terms

The deal terms read:

  • “Lifetime access to AvoMap”
  • “All future custom AppSumo plan updates”
  • “If Plan name changes, deal will be mapped to the new Plan name with all accompanying updates”
  • “You must redeem your code(s) within 60 days of purchase”
  • “Stack unlimited codes”
  • “Each additional code = 6 additional monthly credits”

The guarantee line reads “Not covered by We Got Your Back. Listed by the partner, not reviewed by AppSumo.” The listing also says “Refundable up to 60 days.” Nothing in the terms sets the credit cost of 4K or a logo.

AvoMap vs MapDirector, Mult.dev and TravelAnimator

A buyer asked in March 2026 how AvoMap differs from MapDirector, which they said “seems to be offering same features for free.” The founder agreed there is overlap and said the difference is that AvoMap lets you build routes from scratch, by clicking, dragging or searching, rather than depending on recorded data. An August 2025 reviewer bought it as an alternative to Mult.dev. AvoMap’s own site also has comparison pages against TravelBoast, TravelAnimator and Strava Flyover. We didn’t read or price any of those tools for this review, so we can’t tell you which is cheaper or better; check their current terms yourself.

Common mistakes with the AvoMap deal

Reading 6 credits as 6 videos. When you add a logo, that halves. It’s six only if you keep the AvoMap logo and stay at 1080p.

Trusting old credit threads. 2025 answers quote 2-credit extras; today’s FAQ says 1. Check the calculator on the pricing page before you plan.

Buying codes for a one-off project. A single $59 package gives 50 credits now; a code takes nine months to match it.

Planning to edit on a phone. One buyer couldn’t download on an iPhone. If you’ve got a desktop, finish there.

Expecting a web map. You get an MP4, not an embeddable interactive map.

Letting codes sit. Redeem every code within 60 days of purchase.

Who AvoMap suits

A travel or hiking creator. One or two codes covers a few branded intros a month.

A tour or race organiser. Course previews are the use case the founder’s examples show.

A realtor showing a neighbourhood. Workable, but the Mapbox imagery may not show new streets.

A high-volume agency. Skip the deal, unless 15 full-featured videos a month on ten codes is enough.

How to test it inside the refund window

  1. Build your most typical route in the free editor before spending anything.
  2. Export it twice, once plain and once with your logo in 4K, and watch the credit count when you confirm each render.
  3. Check your longest route against the two-minute length the founder gave in October 2025.
  4. Try it on the device you’ll really use, especially a phone.
  5. Ask support in writing whether your deal credits roll over to 150 or expire after a year.

What we couldn’t check

We didn’t render videos, so we can’t judge quality or render time. Turns out one answer can’t be pinned down either: we couldn’t see the question behind the May 2026 “credits are good for a whole year” reply, confirm today’s maximum video length, or confirm whether overlays have shipped. The listing’s “10 different map styles” and AvoMap’s “7 map styles, 4 light presets” may count the same set differently. Settle the rollover question before day 60.

FAQ: AvoMap questions

Is AvoMap a one-time payment on AppSumo?

Yes. It’s $59 a code, once, read on 29 October 2026. Each code gives 6 credits a month, and the plan list runs up to 10 codes for $590.

How many credits does an AvoMap video cost?

AvoMap’s FAQ says a 1080p video is 1 credit, and 4K, logo removal or ten or more custom symbols add 1 credit each. A branded 4K video is 3 credits.

Do unused AvoMap credits roll over?

The founder said in 2025 that unused deal credits roll over up to 150. A May 2026 reply mentions credits lasting a year, so confirm with support.

Is AvoMap cheaper on AppSumo than buying credits directly?

Over time, yes. A $59 code earns 72 credits a year; AvoMap’s own $59 Pro package is 50 credits once. For a single project, the package is quicker.

The verdict

AvoMap does a narrow job with care: it turns a route into a clean animated map video, and the founder keeps adding what buyers ask for. The deal is good value for anyone who needs a few videos every month, because the credits keep arriving and roll over. Do the credit maths first, though. Your logo and 4K each cost a credit, the schedule has changed before, and there’s no We Got Your Back cover. Test a branded export inside the 60 days.
