Better Sheets review: a cheap lifetime pass, but the terms say no refunds

Better Sheets is a library of Google Sheets courses, tutorials, templates and tools. AppSumo sells lifetime membership for $275 once, against $500 on Better Sheets' own site. The deal terms say it's non-refundable, so read the free material first.

Best for
Small businesses, solopreneurs, Google Sheets users

Bottom line: Better Sheets is a membership site for people who work in Google Sheets. It’s mostly teaching: 10+ courses and 600+ tutorials, each with a sheet you can copy, plus formula generators and 50+ sheet-based tools such as OnlySheets, SheetOps and a site builder. On AppSumo, lifetime membership is $275 once, one plan, one code. Better Sheets’ own site sells lifetime for $500 with five hours of one-on-one consulting, or $9 a month and $50 a year without it. So the AppSumo price is the cheapest way in. The catch is the terms: the deal list says “This deal is non-refundable,” even though the plan box next to it reads “Refundable up to 60 days.” We treat it as not refundable. The listing is also “Not covered by We Got Your Back.”

Best for: small business owners, freelancers and operators who already run real work in Google Sheets and want templates, automation lessons and tools they keep.

Think twice if: you live in Excel, you need one login for a whole team, or you can’t decide without a refund window.

Updated 29 October 2026. This Better Sheets review rests on what we read that day: the Better Sheets listing on AppSumo, including the plan, the deal terms, questions and reviews, and Better Sheets’ own pricing page and lifetime page with their FAQs. We haven’t taken the courses or run the tools, so we describe the plans, the terms and what buyers report, not lesson quality.

What Better Sheets does

Better Sheets is a teaching library first and a tool shelf second. The founder, Andrew, records tutorials on Google Sheets formulas, dashboards and Apps Script, and every video comes with a sheet you can copy into your own Drive. The listing describes it as “a complete toolbox for people who live in Google Sheets,” and its own homepage says it has 4,000+ members.

What a lifetime member gets, from the two pages we read:

  • Courses and tutorials: 10+ courses, among them Spreadsheet Automation 101, Build Better Dashboards and Adventures in AI, and 600+ shorter tutorials.
  • Generators: unlimited formula, QUERY, conditional formatting and regex generators, plus an Apps Script Explainer. Free accounts get two tries per generator.
  • Tools built in Sheets: OnlySheets (sell access to a sheet, with Stripe, Gumroad or Zapier), SheetOps (tasks and recurring work), Coupon Code Maker, Sell Daily, SearchLord and Atomic Sheets for styling.
  • Sites: an update posted on the listing on 8 July 2026 says you can paste a sheet’s URL at bettersheets.co/sites, pick one of six templates (Directory, Catalog, Dashboard, Simple, Feed or Gallery) and publish to a subdomain that updates when the sheet does.
  • Help: the pricing page promises you can message Andrew and “get a real reply.”

The automation lessons are the part most of the listing is about. It walks through buttons inside a sheet that email reports, refresh dashboards or move leads through a CRM, and time-based triggers that run hourly, daily, weekly or monthly. You copy the code, or have AI write it, then adjust it.

When you read the overview closely, notice how little of it is software in the usual sense. There’s no app to install, no seat count, no usage meter. The “product” is a login to a members’ area full of lessons and copyable sheets. That shapes everything else here: the value depends on whether you’ll actually open those lessons, month after month, not on a feature checklist. If you’ve collected unwatched courses before, be candid with yourself about that pattern.

The thing most people miss: the refund line

Here’s the part most people miss, and it decides whether the deal is right for you. AppSumo’s deal terms list ends with “This deal is non-refundable.” A few inches away, the plan box shows “Refundable up to 60 days” with the usual calendar icon. The two lines disagree, and the page data behind the listing carries both: the term text and a 60-day refund field.

Which applies? We’d plan for the stricter one. It’s the deal-specific term, written for this listing, and a buyer asked in June 2025, “What is the guarantee if it’s non refundable?” Andrew’s reply, dated 30 June 2025, didn’t mention a refund at all. They pointed to the free templates and YouTube videos and said, roughly, that if you don’t like those, you probably won’t like what lifetime members get. That’s a fair test, but it’s not a refund.

It gets more confusing if you dig. In February 2025 Andrew told a buyer the AppSumo price was “far cheaper than the gumroad lifetime deal: that’s $599. And you get the appsumo guarantee.” That answer is older than the terms we read today, and the guarantee line now reads “Not covered by We Got Your Back. Listed by the partner, not reviewed by AppSumo.” Better Sheets’ own lifetime FAQ says AppSumo buyers should “Follow AppSumo’s refund policy on your receipt.”

In practice, assume you can’t get your $275 back. If you’ve bought AppSumo deals before on the strength of the 60-day window, this one works differently, so do your testing before you pay rather than after. Don’t forget that redeeming the code is a separate clock: 60 days from purchase, per the terms. Many people won’t notice either detail until it matters.

Plans and prices

AppSumo sells one plan. There’s nothing to choose between, and the terms say “Please note: This deal is not stackable,” so a second code won’t add anything to your account.

PlanPriceIncludes
Better Sheets
A single Google Sheets user
$275 once Lifetime access, 1 code, not stackable, 10+ courses, 600+ tutorials, 50+ tools, One hosted site; no consulting hours

One-time price on AppSumo, read 29 October 2026; the listing shows a struck-through $1,789. Better Sheets' own site sells $9 a month, $50 a year, or $500 lifetime including 5 consulting hours.

Prices checked Oct 29, 2026 on Better Sheets’s own pricing page. Lifetime deals are listings that can end or change, so check the live listing before you buy.

The plan card lists ten lines, all about outcomes rather than limits: “Save hours every day with tips and tricks,” “Easy to follow project-based Google Sheet tutorials,” “Create a storefront with buyable products with our Google Sheets Templates,” “Learn how to sell your own Google Sheets for fun and profit,” and six more in the same vein. The listing shows $275 next to a struck-through $1,789. That $1,789 isn’t a price Better Sheets charges anywhere; its pricing page builds it as a “Total Value” from the listed retail values of the courses, generators and tools, and says so in small print. We wouldn’t read it as a saving.

The deal vs Better Sheets’ own prices

Better Sheets’ own prices, read on 29 October 2026:

Better Sheets’ own planPriceWhat it adds
Monthly$9 a monthCourses, tutorials, generators, templates, one site
Yearly$50 a year (shown against a struck $90)The same, billed yearly
Lifetime$500 onceEverything, every update, plus 5 consulting hours
AppSumo lifetime$275 onceEverything, every update, no consulting

The lifetime page spells out the difference: “Or $275 on AppSumo (lifetime, no consulting bundle).” So the AppSumo code and the direct lifetime plan carry the same library, the same tools and the same future updates. What the extra $225 buys on Better Sheets’ own site is five hours of one-on-one help, described as “Spreadsheet open. Screen shared. I make it better.” Better Sheets’ own FAQ also says new members who buy direct “can request a refund during the grace period.” The page doesn’t say how long that grace period is.

Honestly, that’s the real trade. AppSumo is $225 cheaper, with no consulting and, on the terms we read, no refund. Direct is dearer, includes consulting, and has a refund route of unstated length.

Picking a plan: three worked examples

Someone who wants a year of formula help. At $50 a year, $275 covers five and a half years of the yearly plan. If you’ve only got one project in mind, the yearly plan is the cheaper bet, and you can cancel it. The monthly plan at $9 crosses $275 after about 31 months.

A freelancer who wants the tool catalog. The FAQ says lifetime “opens the full tool catalog: SheetOps, Dark Habits, Big Year, and the rest,” and that tools otherwise cost “$29 here, $49 there.” Turns out that’s the clearest reason to buy lifetime at all: if you’d buy more than a few tools anyway, the $275 code pays for itself quickly against single purchases.

A business owner who wants a fix, not a course. Five consulting hours on the $500 plan work out to $45 an hour on top of the AppSumo price. When you have one stubborn dashboard or script that’s costing you time every week, those hours may be worth more than the saving. Skip the AppSumo code if the consulting is the point.

A team of three. “One purchase is one account, one login,” says the lifetime FAQ, and the AppSumo deal isn’t stackable. Three people on the yearly plan is $150 a year. Three lifetime memberships would be $825 on AppSumo if each person could buy their own code; we couldn’t confirm that, and the FAQ suggests asking Andrew about team options.

The sums lean one way. If you’ll use it for under three years, subscribing costs less and keeps an exit open. If you’ve already got a backlog of spreadsheet chores and expect to lean on it well beyond that, the code wins, but only when you’re the sole user.

What buyers report

The listing shows 4.87 stars from 112 reviews, and the reviews we read are long-term owners.

Still improving, years later. An August 2026 reviewer, who says they’ve used it for “several years,” writes that the platform “is still running with improvements every week” and praises the newer Automate feature for Apps Script tasks.

Lots of material, not much of a path. A July 2024 reviewer felt like they had “super powers” but was “slightly overwhelmed by the sheer number of options” and asked for a learning roadmap. AppSumo’s AI summary of reviews names “overwhelming options” as one of the few complaints.

The founder answers. Buyers from 2022 to 2024 describe Andrew as generous with help, and we found founder replies on recent questions within about a week. In February 2026 a buyer who’d missed the 60-day redemption window asked for access; Andrew answered the same day: “You can still access the product. Use your code and get in there.”

Honest about limits. In January 2026 someone asked whether it could handle CSV files with 20,000 to 50,000+ columns. Andrew’s reply ended: “I don’t think Better Sheets is going to help you at all.” Better Sheets works inside Google Sheets’ own limits, not around them.

The Google question. On 30 September 2026 a buyer called it “way to expensive to depend on rd party company.” Andrew’s 7 October reply listed Sites, Automate and tools built on the Places API and OpenStreetMap, but the dependence on Google is real. Every tool here sits on Sheets and Apps Script, so a change on Google’s side could break one; that’s the bargain when you build on someone else’s platform.

Reading the ratings fairly. Most of the five-star reviews we read date from 2022 to 2024. Only one came from 2026. Honestly, that isn’t a warning sign by itself, since the newest one is enthusiastic, but it means the recent picture rests more on the founder’s dated answers than on fresh reviews.

The terms

The deal terms read:

  • “Lifetime access to Better Sheets Plan”
  • “You must redeem your code(s) within 60 days of purchase”
  • “All future Better Sheets Plan updates”
  • “Please note: This deal is not stackable”
  • “GDPR Compliant (Partner Verified)”
  • “This deal is non-refundable”

The guarantee line reads “Not covered by We Got Your Back. Listed by the partner, not reviewed by AppSumo.” The plan box separately shows “Refundable up to 60 days,” which contradicts the last term. Better Sheets’ own lifetime FAQ describes lifetime as lasting “For as long as Better Sheets exists,” which is the honest version of what any lifetime deal means.

Better Sheets vs YouTube, the monthly plan and RowZero

Free YouTube tutorials. Better Sheets’ own FAQ makes the comparison itself: YouTube is fine “for one-off hacks,” and Better Sheets is the library plus the generators and templates. Andrew posts free videos there too, so they’re the best preview of the teaching style before you spend anything.

The monthly or yearly plan. It’s the same library and generators for $9 a month or $50 a year, with cancellation. The lifetime tier adds the full tool catalog and future tools. If you’re not sure you’ll use the tools, start on monthly.

RowZero. One buyer asked whether Better Sheets could replace RowZero for huge CSV files, and the founder said no. We didn’t price or read RowZero for this review; the point is only that Better Sheets doesn’t change what Google Sheets can handle.

Excel. Better Sheets’ FAQ is plain about it: formulas and ideas mostly transfer, “Buttons and Apps Script do not.”

Common mistakes with the Better Sheets deal

Buying on the strength of AppSumo’s usual refund. The deal terms say non-refundable. Decide before you pay.

Buying one code for a team. It’s one account and one login, and codes don’t stack.

Expecting it to fix slow, huge files. Google Sheets’ limits still apply, as the founder said on the listing.

Forgetting to redeem. The terms give you 60 days. One buyer missed it and was let in anyway; don’t count on that.

Buying for Excel. Apps Script and the buttons won’t work there. If you’ve got a mixed office, check which app your colleagues open first.

Expecting unlimited websites. Lifetime includes one live site on a Better Sheets subdomain, with more in drafts.

Who Better Sheets suits

An operator who runs the business in Sheets. CRM flows, dashboards and email-from-Sheets lessons, with the code included.

A creator selling templates. OnlySheets and Sites cover selling and publishing sheets.

A learner who wants depth over time. Six hundred tutorials suit someone who’ll dip in for years. Skip the urge to binge; when you hit a real problem, search the library for it.

A team, an Excel shop, or anyone who needs a refund window. Skip it, or start on monthly.

How to test it before you buy

There’s no refund window we can rely on, so test first.

  1. Browse the free tutorials on bettersheets.co and watch a few of Andrew’s YouTube videos.
  2. Make a free account and use your two tries on the formula and QUERY generators.
  3. Grab a free template, such as Big Year, and see whether the style suits how you work.
  4. Email Andrew with your main use case and ask whether the AppSumo code is refundable. Don’t skip this one; get the answer in writing.
  5. Price the monthly plan against $275 for the time you’ll actually use it.

What we couldn’t check

We didn’t take the courses, run the generators, publish a site or contact support. We couldn’t resolve which refund line applies, how long Better Sheets’ own grace period is, or whether one buyer can purchase separate codes for colleagues. Ask before you pay, not after.

FAQ: Better Sheets questions

Is Better Sheets a one-time payment on AppSumo?

Yes. Lifetime membership is $275 once, one code, as read on 29 October 2026.

Can I get a refund on the Better Sheets AppSumo deal?

The deal terms say “This deal is non-refundable,” although the plan box says “Refundable up to 60 days.” We’d assume no refund and test the free material first.

Is the AppSumo deal cheaper than buying Better Sheets directly?

Yes. Better Sheets sells lifetime for $500 with five consulting hours; AppSumo’s $275 has the same library and updates without the consulting.

Does Better Sheets work with Excel?

Not fully. Its FAQ says ideas and most formulas transfer, but buttons and Apps Script do not.

The verdict

Better Sheets is a large, well-reviewed Google Sheets library from a founder who still ships updates and answers questions, and $275 is the lowest lifetime price on the pages we read. The trouble is the terms: a non-refundable deal with no AppSumo guarantee, one login per purchase and one hosted site. If you’ve watched the free material and know you’ll use it for years, it’s a fair buy. If you’re curious but unsure, the monthly plan is the safer way to find out.
