Deftform review: one plan, one payment, judged by what it doesn't charge for

Deftform sells one $49 lifetime plan on AppSumo with unlimited forms and responses, API, payments and a custom domain. What's included, what the guarantee line means, and who should buy.

Bottom line: Deftform is a form builder in the Typeform mould, launched in April 2024, with an AI builder, payments, webhooks, an API and a custom domain. On AppSumo it sells one plan for $49, with unlimited forms and unlimited responses. Deftform’s own site sells a lifetime plan at €189, so the AppSumo price is low by any measure. The listing is rated 4.9 from 99 reviews. Two things to weigh: it’s “Not covered by We Got Your Back” and was “not reviewed by AppSumo,” and AppSumo’s own summary of buyer reviews mentions “limited support responsiveness.” Test it inside the 60 days.

Best for: agencies, course creators and small businesses who need many forms, with data kept in the EU.

Think twice if: you need a large team behind your tools, or features like live price calculations.

We have no affiliate deal with Deftform or AppSumo; links go to the official pages. How we review.

Updated 29 October 2026. This Deftform review rests on two pages we read that day: the Deftform listing on AppSumo, including its full feature list and deal terms, and Deftform’s own site, including its pricing section. We haven’t run a client’s intake through it, so we describe what the plan includes and what the terms say, not how it behaves at ten thousand submissions.

What Deftform does

Deftform builds forms with a drag-and-drop editor or an AI builder, then stores every submission in a dashboard you can filter and export. According to the listing, the single plan includes:

  • The AI form builder, for drafting a form from a prompt.
  • API access, webhooks and email notifications, so a submission can trigger something elsewhere.
  • Payments via Stripe, inside the form.
  • File uploads and team management.
  • Custom form styles and custom form scripts, for matching your brand or adding tracking.
  • Custom thank-you pages and redirects.
  • A custom domain with SSL.
  • Unlimited forms and unlimited responses.

Listed integrations are Google Sheets, HubSpot, Stripe, webhooks and the API. Buyers on the listing describe connecting it to Pabbly Connect, Make and Albato through webhooks, which is how most people will wire it into other tools.

Why the single plan matters

Most AppSumo listings sell tiers. Deftform sells one: “One plan, all inclusive.” The deal terms add, “Please note: This deal is not stackable.” That makes buying simple. There’s no tier where the useful feature is crossed out, and no reason to buy three codes to unlock payments or the API.

It also explains the most common praise on the listing. A Zurich agency owner wrote that they wanted a builder “without paying per seat, per form, or per submission,” and found it here. That’s the value proposition in one line, and honestly it’s the right way to judge Deftform: by what it doesn’t charge for.

What buyers on the listing report

Buyer reviews aren’t evidence the way a spec sheet is, but they fill gaps the feature list leaves. Read them as anecdotes from people who chose to write.

  • Setup time. One buyer says it took “about 20 minutes” to build a client onboarding form, add a logo and connect a domain. Another had a first live form running “in under 15 minutes.”
  • Field types. The Zurich agency review mentions multi-page forms, conditional logic, file uploads, e-signatures and “20+ field types.” Those aren’t all on the listing’s own feature list, so treat them as one customer’s account.
  • Storage as a safety net. The same reviewer liked that every submission is kept in Deftform rather than only emailed, so an entry survives even if a notification lands in spam.
  • Embeds. A third buyer embeds one form both inline on a website and inside slide-out drawers, “without any display glitches.”
  • Exports. CSV and PDF exports are mentioned for participant lists and invoicing.

What the reviews don’t cover is just as telling: almost nobody describes large volumes, complex integrations failing, or a long support exchange. When your use case looks like those, you’re in less charted territory.

The price, against Deftform’s own

On deftform.com, prices are in euros, excluding VAT. The site offers three ways to pay:

  • Pre-paid: €4 per form, sold in packs of 5.
  • Complete: €25 a month, with unlimited forms.
  • Lifetime: €189 once, “Pay once, use forever,” also available as €16 a month for 12 months.

Against those, $49 on AppSumo is a fraction of Deftform’s own lifetime price. When you’re comparing, don’t skip one step: the AppSumo listing doesn’t restate every limit from the site, so confirm the details that matter to you after redeeming.

Data in the EU

Deftform’s site says most data is stored on servers in Falkenstein, Germany, and that uploaded files stay within the European Union. The listing calls the product “GDPR compliant.”

For agencies with European clients, that’s a selling point, and one buyer says as much: being able to tell a client where the data sits “is worth real money.” We can’t audit a hosting claim from a sales page, and GDPR compliance depends on how you use a tool too, but the location is stated plainly, which isn’t true of every form builder.

The guarantee line, and support

Under the buy button, the listing reads: “Not covered by We Got Your Back. Listed by the partner, not reviewed by AppSumo.” It’s still “Refundable up to 60 days,” so your money isn’t stuck. What’s missing is AppSumo’s own vetting and its extra guarantee.

Support is the other thing to test. AppSumo’s AI-written summary of buyer reviews says that “occasional bugs and limited support responsiveness” were reported, and calls them minor. The listing’s reviews are overwhelmingly positive, and a couple of them push back against critical comments. Most people miss that a 4.9 rating says little about support until you need it. Send a real question during your first week and time the answer.

Branding and workspaces: confirm these

Two details from Deftform’s own site aren’t spelled out on the listing:

  • The backlink. Deftform’s forms carry a “Powered by Deftform” link; on its own site, removing it costs €10 once, and some add-ons include removal. The AppSumo feature list mentions custom styles and a custom domain, but not removal of that link. If a clean, unbranded form matters to your clients, check after redeeming.
  • Workspaces. The site lists 3 workspaces on its plans, with more as a one-time purchase. The listing doesn’t say how many the AppSumo plan includes. Agencies running one workspace per client should ask.

Who Deftform suits

An agency building forms for many clients. It’s the clearest fit: unlimited forms and responses, a custom domain, and EU hosting. Check the workspace count first.

A course creator taking registrations and payments. Stripe payments and file uploads are on the single plan. Use the CSV or PDF exports for participant lists. When you charge through a form, don’t trust a test you ran in Stripe’s sandbox alone; take one small live payment, refund it, and check that the receipt, the submission and the payout all line up.

A small business replacing a monthly form subscription. If you’ve been paying monthly for forms, $49 once pays for itself fast.

A team needing quotes calculated live. One buyer asks for “Dynamic Calculation / Instant Estimate fields” as a future feature, which suggests they aren’t there yet. Don’t buy on the hope.

Common mistakes with the Deftform deal

Buying two codes. The deal isn’t stackable. One is all you can use.

Skipping the support test. Do it in week one, not month three.

Assuming the backlink is gone. Look at a live form before sending it to a client.

Forgetting to redeem. The terms say you must redeem within 60 days of purchase. In practice, redeem the day you buy.

How to test it inside the refund window

  1. Redeem the code and set up your custom domain.
  2. Rebuild your busiest real form, with conditional logic and file uploads.
  3. Connect a webhook or Google Sheets, and send a test submission through.
  4. Take a test payment if you’ll charge through Stripe.
  5. Ask support one real question, and note the reply time.

What we couldn’t check

We didn’t test the AI builder, form load speed, or deliverability of notification emails. We couldn’t confirm the workspace count or backlink rules for AppSumo buyers. When those decide your purchase, ask Deftform in writing before day 60.

FAQ: Deftform questions

Is Deftform a one-time payment on AppSumo?

Yes. One Lifetime Plan for $49, with unlimited forms and responses. The deal isn’t stackable.

Is Deftform covered by AppSumo’s guarantee?

No. It’s “Not covered by We Got Your Back,” but it is refundable up to 60 days.

Where does Deftform store data?

Deftform says most data is on servers in Falkenstein, Germany, with uploads kept in the EU.

Does Deftform have a free plan?

Not a plan as such. Its site says the first form is free to try, with no credit card required.

The verdict

Deftform is the easiest kind of lifetime deal to judge: one plan, one price, and nothing important held back for a higher tier. Unlimited forms and responses, payments, webhooks, the API and EU hosting for $49 is strong value against Deftform’s own €189 lifetime price. The risks are the young company, the missing AppSumo guarantee and reports of slow support. Buy it, build your real forms in the first weeks, test support, and keep it if it holds.
