Flat Icons review: a big icon library for $69, but the deal terms say no refund

Flat Icons sells 30,000+ 2D, 3D and animated icons on AppSumo for $69 once, with 3 users and commercial use. That undercuts the vendor's own $99 Growth plan, but the deal terms say it is non-refundable and buyers report download caps and a web app outage.

Bottom line: Flat Icons is an icon library from flat-icons.com, a company that says it started in 2014 in Amsterdam. The AppSumo deal sells lifetime access to its bundle of 2D, 3D and animated icons for $69 once, with 3 users and both personal and commercial use. That’s $30 less than the vendor’s own Growth plan, which has the same user count and licence. The catch is in the terms. The deal terms say “This deal is non-refundable,” even though the same page also shows “Refundable up to 60 days.” Two buyers say they found out the hard way that they couldn’t get their money back, so plan on there being no refund. The listing is “Not covered by We Got Your Back. Listed by the partner, not reviewed by AppSumo.”

Best for: designers, agencies and marketers who use a lot of colourful, themed icon sets and want them without a subscription.

Think twice if: you need a refund window, plain black-and-white UI icons, or reliable single-icon search right now.

Updated 29 October 2026. This Flat Icons review rests on what we read that day: the Flat Icons listing on AppSumo, including the plan card, the deal terms, questions and reviews, and the Flat Icons bundle page on flat-icons.com with its three plans and FAQ, plus the vendor’s terms and about page. We haven’t downloaded or used the icons, so we describe the plans, the licence, the limits and what buyers report, not file quality.

What Flat Icons does

Flat Icons is a library of illustrated icons sold as one bundle. The listing’s overview counts 31,924 icons in 45 3D sets, 388 2D sets, 15 animated sets and 16 3D animated sets. The title says 32,000+, the TL;DR says “over 31,000,” and the deal terms say 30,000+. Those numbers don’t match exactly, but they sit in the same range, and the founder’s update posts show sets being added over time.

The vendor’s bundle page describes 24 vector styles with names like Coral, Hazel, Malibu and Indigo, each “available in” a few dozen themes. In practice that means you buy themed sets, such as banking, eCommerce, artificial intelligence or weather, drawn in one consistent style. That’s the selling point: matching icons across a whole project instead of a mix from different artists.

There are three ways to get at the files:

  • Downloads. The vendor FAQ says each icon comes in AI, EPS, SVG, PDF and PNG, plus IconJar files, and that the whole bundle unpacks to “around 18 GB.”
  • Web app. A browser app to search, filter and download single icons.
  • Plugins. A Figma plugin, rebuilt in October 2024 per a founder update, and an Adobe XD plugin described in the vendor FAQ. The listing names Adobe Illustrator and Photoshop under integrations, but in December 2025 the founder answered a buyer: “We don’t have an Illustrator plugin just yet.” You can still open the files in Illustrator.

The listing also says “10 years in business,” which matches the vendor’s about page story of a start in 2014 in Amsterdam, Netherlands. The founder answers on AppSumo as Paul_design.

The one thing most people miss: download caps

Most people miss that “lifetime access” and “unlimited downloads” aren’t the same thing here. The vendor’s own Starter and Growth plans both list “2 direct downloads per week.” Only the $399 Unlimited plan lists “Unlimited direct downloads.”

The founder has described the limit in two different ways on AppSumo. In January 2026, answering a buyer who called the listing misleading, the founder said lifetime deal users “can now download full icon sets using 2 credits per week,” and that “Unlimited icon-set downloads are only included in our All-Access plan.” In June 2026, answering another buyer, the founder said “the website allows 2 direct pack downloads per day, which resets every 24 hours.” We can’t tell you which one applies today. The vendor’s bundle page, read on 29 October 2026, says per week.

Turns out the cap isn’t the whole story. The same June 2026 reply says there are two other routes “without any limit”: full icon packs as ZIP files in your user dashboard, and the web app for single icons. So the cap mainly affects one-click set downloads from the main website. That’s fine when you can rely on the dashboard ZIPs and the web app. It’s a problem if one of them is down, which brings us to the next section.

What the cap means in real numbers

Here’s a quick sum using the listing’s own set counts: 45 + 388 + 15 + 16 = 464 sets.

  • At 2 set downloads a week, pulling every set one by one through the website would take 232 weeks, about four and a half years.
  • At 2 a day, it would take 232 days, under eight months.
  • Through the dashboard ZIPs, the founder says there’s no limit, but you’re handling a library that unpacks to around 18 GB, and one buyer said the downloads “may be split into multiple files.”

Honestly, nobody needs all 464 sets on day one. If you’ve got one client project a week, two sets a week is probably enough. If you’re an agency starting several brand projects at once, it isn’t, and you’ll lean on the dashboard or the web app.

The web app outage

The web app is the easiest way to find one icon without unzipping gigabytes. In March 2026 a buyer wrote that the web app “can’t be logged in for a few months already,” returning “Internal Server Error.” The founder replied the same day that “The web app is currently unavailable due to ongoing issues” and that “all icon sets are still accessible via direct download from the main website.”

Turns out the outage wasn’t the end of it. By June 2026 the founder was again pointing a buyer to the web app as a way to “search and download individual icons in all formats.” On 29 October 2026 the web app’s address loaded a page titled “Search | Flat Icons.” We couldn’t log in to confirm it works for a paid account, so treat its status as unconfirmed.

The plan, and what stacking adds

AppSumo sells one plan, Flat Icons, at $69 for one code. The card lists: “Lifetime access,” “3 Users,” “30,000+ Icons,” “Lifetime updates,” “Software plugins,” “Web app,” “Personal projects” and “Commercial projects.” Stacking more codes adds a licence level:

CodesPrice on 29 Oct 2026What the card says it adds
1$693 users, personal and commercial projects
3$207“Agency license (up to 25 users)”
5$345“All-Access Flat-Icons.com license”

$207 once Agency license (up to 25 users), Lifetime updates, Web app and plugins
5 codes
Unlimited set downloads (confirm first)
$345 once All-Access Flat-Icons.com license, User count not stated on the listing, Lifetime updates

One-time prices on AppSumo; each plan is a number of stacked codes (1, 3 or 5); the listing shows $149 struck through. Flat-icons.com sells Starter $79 (1 user, personal), Growth $99 (up to 3 users, commercial) and Unlimited $399 (up to 10 users, 54,000 icons, unlimited direct downloads), all one-time and non-refundable per its terms.

Prices checked Oct 29, 2026 on Flat Icons’s own pricing page. Lifetime deals are listings that can end or change, so check the live listing before you buy.

The listing shows $149 struck through next to $69 and labels it “54% off.” That’s the listing’s own comparison. The vendor’s own site doesn’t sell a $149 plan that we could see, so we wouldn’t treat that figure as a saving.

The deal vs flat-icons.com’s own plans

Flat-icons.com sells three one-time plans on its bundle page, read on 29 October 2026:

Vendor planPriceUsersLicenceDirect downloads
Starter$79 once1Personal projects2 per week
Growth$99 onceUp to 3Commercial projects2 per week
Unlimited$399 onceUp to 10Commercial, 54,000 icons totalUnlimited

The single AppSumo code lines up with Growth: 3 users, commercial use, lifetime updates. It costs $69 against $99. So for a small team, AppSumo is the cheaper door, by $30.

The vendor’s Commercial licence FAQ also explains what commercial use covers. You may “create end projects for sale (for your company or on behalf of a client),” but you may not “Use the icons as the main value of a product you resell or distribute.” So when you’re designing for clients, you’re covered. Selling an icon pack or a template whose main value is these icons is not.

The top end is harder to match. AppSumo’s five-code tier is called “All-Access,” and the vendor’s top plan is called “Unlimited.” We couldn’t confirm that they’re the same licence, how many users All-Access carries, or whether it includes the 54,000-icon total. Don’t bother stacking five codes on that assumption until support has answered.

Don’t forget the refund difference either, because there isn’t one. The vendor’s terms say “all purchases made on flat-icons.com are non-refundable or exchangeable.” The AppSumo deal terms say the same. Neither route gives you a trial with a way back.

Picking a number of codes

A freelancer. One code covers you plus two collaborators, with commercial rights, for $69. That’s $23 per user, against $33 per user on the vendor’s Growth plan.

A small agency of 8 to 25 people. Three codes, $207, for “up to 25 users.” Doing the same on the vendor site would mean several 3-user commercial licences; the vendor FAQ says “you can buy multiple commercial licenses for your organization.” Nine of them, enough for 25 people, would cost $891 at $99 each. Per user, three AppSumo codes come to about $8.28.

Someone who wants unlimited set downloads. The vendor’s Unlimited plan is $399; five AppSumo codes are $345. But since we couldn’t match All-Access to Unlimited, the $54 gap only counts once support confirms what All-Access includes in writing.

If you’ve got four or more people who each need a login, one code won’t stretch. In practice, most solo buyers should stop at one code. Skip the extra codes unless you can count real users who need their own logins.

What buyers report

The listing shows 4.21 stars from 91 reviews. The breakdown is 63 five-star, 9 four-star, 4 three-star, 5 two-star and 10 one-star. Most people miss the dates: the positive reviews are mostly old, and the most recent ones are mostly negative.

Early buyers liked the range. A January 2023 reviewer praised “Excellent quality icons” and the “Huge Variety” across niches, and pointed to the web app’s search and filters as the way around a 17 GB download. A December 2022 reviewer called the collection “massive” but said the signup process was “a bit convoluted” and they “had to contact support to iron things out.”

Search and icon types draw complaints. In practice, search seems to be the weak spot. A May 2025 reviewer gave it roughly three stars, saying a search for a specific icon such as “Radar” returned no match, though browsing found one. A June 2025 reviewer said “the search function stinks,” that results show bundles rather than single icons, and that they couldn’t find standard black-and-white menu and button icons.

Refunds caught people out. That June 2025 reviewer wrote: “this deal is non-refundable. I found that out the hard way.” A January 2026 reviewer said it was “not returnable for a refund” and also complained about the download limits.

The newest review is about credits. In June 2026 a buyer said they downloaded two packs and ran out of credit, and that they “preferred refund.” The founder replied two days later with the per-day explanation quoted above.

The founder does answer. Across the questions we read, Paul_design replied within one to three days. The answers are polite but sometimes route the buyer to email: in March 2025 a buyer whose account showed “Basic Membership” with “2 weekly downloads” was told to email contact@flat-icons.com with their codes.

Other answers on the listing

A few founder answers settle common questions:

  • No API. In July 2025 the founder said “The API is a separate product and is not included with the AppSumo purchase.”
  • No Google Slides add-on. In November 2025 the founder said there isn’t one, but you can use the icons in Slides under the licence terms.
  • Bulk downloads. In November 2025 the founder said you can “bulk download your icons as zipped files from your account dashboard,” and that “all icons are properly named.”
  • Not Flaticon. In January 2026 the founder said “Flat-Icons.com is an independent platform and is not affiliated with Flaticon.com.”

The terms

The deal terms read:

  • “Lifetime access to Flat Icons – 30,000+ icons (2D, 3D, and Animated)”
  • “You must redeem your code(s) within 60 days of purchase”
  • “All future updates”
  • “Stack up to 5 codes”
  • “This deal is non-refundable”

The guarantee line reads “Not covered by We Got Your Back. Listed by the partner, not reviewed by AppSumo.” Under the Buy button the page also shows “Refundable up to 60 days.” The two lines contradict each other. Given the explicit term and two buyers who say they couldn’t get a refund, we’d assume the term applies. When you need a way back, ask AppSumo support before you buy, not after.

Don’t forget the redemption clock either: codes must be redeemed within 60 days of purchase. The vendor FAQ says it usually updates the bundle “3-4 times per year.” The most recent founder update post on the listing is from December 2024, announcing 30 new sets.

Flat Icons vs Flaticon and free icon sets

The name is the first thing to sort out, because many people don’t notice the hyphen. Flaticon.com is a different company; the founder says so on the listing, and one buyer bought Flat Icons thinking it was Flaticon. We didn’t price Flaticon or any other icon library for this review, so we can’t compare their prices or limits.

What we can say from the pages we read: Flat Icons sells a fixed, owned bundle of themed, illustrated sets, with source files in AI and EPS, for a one-time price. If you’ve been searching free sites for one-off icons, the gain here is consistency across a set and editable source files. If you’ve mostly needed simple monochrome interface icons for buttons and menus, one reviewer says they couldn’t find them, and the bundle page lists colourful styles rather than a plain UI set.

Common mistakes with the Flat Icons deal

Assuming the 60-day refund. The terms say “This deal is non-refundable.” Two buyers learned that after buying.

Confusing it with Flaticon. It’s a separate company and a separate library.

Expecting unlimited set downloads. One code carries a direct-download cap; the founder points to dashboard ZIPs and the web app for unlimited access.

Buying it for the API. The API isn’t included.

Stacking five codes on a guess. Get written confirmation of what “All-Access” includes before paying $345.

Expecting plain UI icons. If you’ve only ever needed simple button and menu glyphs, note that the library is mostly coloured, themed sets.

Who Flat Icons suits

A designer or marketer building themed visuals. One code gives three people commercial rights to a large set library for $69.

A web or marketing agency. Three codes cover up to 25 users for $207, far below buying several vendor licences.

Someone who needs a safety net. Skip this one. There’s no refund in the terms.

A developer who wants icons through an API. Skip this too; that’s a separate product.

How to test it before you buy

There is no refund in the deal terms, so do your testing first.

  1. Download the free samples. The vendor’s bundle page has a “Get Free Samples” link. When you open them in your own design tool, check that colours and shapes are editable.
  2. Try the Figma plugin. The founder’s October 2024 update says non-members get “access to over 5,000 icons that you can try for free” in it.
  3. Browse the set list. Check the bundle page for the exact themes you need, rather than relying on search.
  4. Email support first. Ask contact@flat-icons.com about today’s download cap, whether the web app works, and what All-Access includes.
  5. Ask AppSumo about the refund line. Get an answer on the “non-refundable” term versus the “Refundable up to 60 days” line in writing.

What we couldn’t check

We didn’t download icons, so we can’t speak to file quality or how well search works. We couldn’t log in to the web app to see whether it’s working for paid accounts after the 2026 outage. We couldn’t confirm whether the direct-download cap is two per week or two per day, since the vendor page and the founder’s answers disagree. We couldn’t match AppSumo’s “All-Access” licence to the vendor’s $399 Unlimited plan or find its user count. And we couldn’t resolve the listing’s contradiction between “This deal is non-refundable” and “Refundable up to 60 days.”

FAQ: Flat Icons questions

Is Flat Icons a one-time payment on AppSumo?

Yes. One code is $69 once for 3 users, as read on 29 October 2026. Three codes ($207) add an agency licence for up to 25 users, and five codes ($345) add the “All-Access” licence.

Is the Flat Icons AppSumo deal refundable?

The deal terms say “This deal is non-refundable.” The page also shows a 60-day refund line, but buyers report being refused, so assume there is no refund.

Is Flat Icons the same as Flaticon?

No. The founder says Flat-Icons.com is independent and not affiliated with Flaticon.com.

Can I use Flat Icons for client work?

Yes. When you’re working for clients, the plan’s commercial projects line covers it, and the vendor’s licence allows end products for clients, but not products whose main value is the icons themselves.

The verdict

On price, the AppSumo code is a fair deal: the same 3-user commercial licence the vendor sells as Growth for $99 costs $69 here, and the agency tier is far cheaper per seat. Honestly, on risk, it’s one of the weaker listings we’ve read. The terms rule out a refund, there’s no We Got Your Back cover, the download cap is described two different ways, and recent buyers reported a web app outage. If you know you want themed, illustrated icon sets and you’ve checked the free samples, one code is reasonable. If you’re unsure, skip the deal; you can’t undo it.
