Hedy AI review: one Pro licence for $179, if your devices qualify

Hedy AI listens to your meetings on your own phone or computer, writes summaries and suggests questions as you talk. AppSumo sells one Pro licence for $179 once, against $299 for Hedy's own lifetime plan. The device rules and the single seat matter more than the price.

Consultants, coaches, recruiters, project managers

Bottom line: Hedy AI is a meeting assistant that runs on your own phone, tablet or computer. It transcribes a conversation, writes a summary and notes afterwards, and during the meeting it can suggest questions or answer yours. It doesn’t join your call as a bot; you run it yourself. On AppSumo it sells one plan, Pro, for $179 once on 29 October 2026, shown against a struck-through $299. Hedy’s own site sells the same Pro lifetime licence for $299, or Pro at $99.99 a year. So the deal is $120 under Hedy’s own lifetime price and is “Refundable up to 60 days.” The catches are in the terms: the apps need fairly recent hardware, the deal is “not stackable,” and the founder says Team and Enterprise plans aren’t part of it. On the guarantee, the listing reads “Plus members are covered by our We Got Your Back guarantee,” so cover depends on your AppSumo membership.

Best for: consultants, coaches, recruiters and anyone who sits in a lot of calls and wants notes and prompts without a bot in the room.

Think twice if: your laptop is an Intel Mac, your phone is older than an iPhone 12, or you need shared team workspaces.

Updated 29 October 2026. This Hedy AI review rests on what we read that day: the Hedy AI listing on AppSumo, including the plan card, the deal terms, the founder’s posts, questions and reviews, and Hedy’s own pricing page with its plan comparison and pricing FAQ. We haven’t recorded meetings with it, so we describe the plan, the limits and what buyers report, not transcription accuracy.

What Hedy AI does

You start a session on your phone or computer at the start of a meeting, pick a session type, and Hedy listens. The listing names eleven types: Business, Coaching & Mentoring, Job Interview (Candidate), Negotiation, Journalism, Healthcare, Spiritual Teaching, Recruitment, Personal Conversations, Lectures and Solo Brainstorming. While the meeting runs, Hedy can push “Automatic Suggestions,” which the listing describes as proactive coaching that “suggests questions, and surfaces insights at the right moment.” You can also ask it things directly, use custom quick prompts, and tap to save a highlight.

After the meeting you get a summary, detailed notes and to-dos, and you can chat with the session. The AppSumo plan card lists these lines:

  • Automatic suggestions; Organize, connect, & chat; Automatic prep notes
  • Web app; Specialized modes; Post-session summaries; Data export
  • Integrations; EU Data Residency; Unlimited sessions; Unlimited meeting length
  • 30+ languages; Native Apps; Apple Watch companion app
  • On-device speech recognition; YouTube import & analysis; Session sharing & collaboration

“Topics” group related sessions so you can ask across them, and Hedy writes prep notes before the next meeting in a topic. Exports come as Markdown, CSV or JSON. For automation the listing names Zapier, n8n, webhooks, a REST API and an MCP server; the FAQ gives the MCP address as https://api.hedy.bot/mcp and says the API needs “A Pro subscription with cloud sync enabled.” You can also import audio and video files (MP3, WAV, M4A, MP4, MOV and others) or a YouTube link for transcription.

The company behind it is small. The listing says Hedy AI was founded on 1 June 2024 in Portland, Oregon, has 1-10 staff and is bootstrapped. The founder, Julian Pscheid, answers most reviews and questions himself.

The device rules most people miss

Here’s the part most people miss, and it decides whether the deal works for you at all. Hedy does its speech recognition on your device, which is a privacy plus, but it means the hardware has to keep up. The deal terms spell it out:

  • iPhone: “an iPhone 12 or newer.”
  • Android: “Android 12 or newer.”
  • Mac: “an M1 chipset or newer, with macOS 15 or newer.”
  • Windows: “Windows 10 or newer. A device with a dedicated GPU is recommended for optimal performance.”

So an Intel MacBook is out, and so is an Apple Silicon Mac still on macOS 14. On Windows, the GPU line is only a recommendation, but don’t forget that the listing’s own summary calls the Windows app “(beta),” and the founder’s March 2026 update says “Windows app (currently in beta).” Hedy’s own pricing page lists Windows without the beta label. Turns out the two pages describe the same app slightly differently, so treat Windows as the platform to test hardest.

The founder was open about why this matters as far back as December 2024, writing that on-device processing meant “we’re currently at the limit of what mobile devices can handle.” The language list has grown a lot since then, from 14 at launch to “30+” now, but the hardware floor in the terms is the current rule.

The second thing to know: the March 2026 update called the web app “Read-only,” for reviewing sessions, managing topics and chatting with past conversations. You record on the phone, Mac, Windows or Watch apps, not in a browser.

The plan, and the 120-minute line

PlanPriceIncludes
Pro Plan
One person in many meetings
$179 once Unlimited sessions and meeting length, Automatic suggestions for the first 120 minutes of each session, Integrations, API, MCP and EU data residency

One-time price on AppSumo, one non-stackable licence, shown against a struck-through $299. Hedy's own site lists Free (5 hours a month), Pro at $12.99 a month, $99.99 a year or $299 lifetime, Team at $99.99 a seat a year, and custom Enterprise pricing; website purchases carry a 14-day refund.

Prices checked Oct 29, 2026 on Hedy AI’s own pricing page. Lifetime deals are listings that can end or change, so check the live listing before you buy.

There’s one plan, and it maps to Hedy’s own Pro. The deal terms promise “All future Pro Plan updates,” and Hedy’s pricing page says “Lifetime includes everything in Pro.” That’s a clean mapping, which we like.

Pro removes the free plan’s monthly cap: “Unlimited meeting length and sessions.” It doesn’t remove every limit, though. On Hedy’s comparison table, “Live AI suggestions in each session” reads “First 30 minutes” on Free and “First 120 minutes” on Pro. The listing says the same: “Pro users get 120 minutes of automatic suggestions per session.” After two hours, the automatic coaching stops for that session. Transcription, notes and your own questions to Hedy carry on.

In practice, the founder also explained in April 2026 that automatic suggestions “currently only get generated every few minutes,” while chatting directly with Hedy “typically” gets an answer “within a couple of seconds.” So the suggestions are periodic nudges, not a running commentary.

Picking a plan: three worked examples

A consultant with ten one-hour client calls a week. That’s about 43 hours a month. Hedy’s free plan gives “Up to 5 hours per month,” so the free tier covers about one week’s calls. Pro is the only realistic option. At $99.99 a year direct, $179 once on AppSumo equals about 21 months of the yearly plan; at $12.99 a month, it equals about 14 months.

A trainer who runs three-hour workshops. Each session gets automatic suggestions for the first 120 minutes and none for the last 60. If you’ve built Hedy into the end of your workshops, for wrap-up questions, you’ll be asking it yourself by then.

A freelancer with two or three calls a month. Three one-hour calls is 3 hours, well inside the free plan’s 5 hours. The difference you’d lose is suggestions after 30 minutes, Highlights, imports and integrations. Honestly, if that’s your whole month, start on the free plan and buy only if you hit the cap.

A small team of four. This deal is “not stackable,” and the founder said in October 2026 that “the Team or Enterprise plans are not part of the Pro license.” You’d buy four separate Pro licences, each on its own account, without the Team plan’s shared Topics or admin dashboard. One July 2026 reviewer did exactly that, buying “multiple lifetime licenses” for their team.

The deal vs Hedy’s own plans

Hedy’s own pricing, read on 29 October 2026:

Hedy’s own planPriceWhat it adds
Free$0Up to 5 hours a month; live suggestions for the first 30 minutes
Pro$12.99 a month or $99.99 a yearUnlimited sessions and length; suggestions for the first 120 minutes
Pro Lifetime$299 onceSame features as Pro, “all future updates”
Team$12.99 a seat a month or $99.99 a seat a yearTeam Topics, admin dashboard; for 2 to 200 seats
EnterpriseCustom, 200-seat minimumSSO, audit logs, own AI models, BAA

The AppSumo struck-through $299 matches Hedy’s own lifetime price, so AppSumo’s $179 is $120 less for the same Pro features. Hedy’s own refund window for website purchases is 14 days, per its pricing FAQ, against AppSumo’s 60. One oddity: the AppSumo page title compares the deal with “$1,188/yr.” We couldn’t match that figure to anything on Hedy’s own pricing page, which shows $99.99 a year for Pro.

There’s history here too. In March 2026 a one-taco reviewer complained the price had gone “From $59 to $179.” The founder replied that “when we launched at $39,” Hedy lacked real-time coaching, the desktop and web apps and much else, and that the lifetime price “reflects what it costs to sustain AI infrastructure.” We can’t confirm past prices, but the takeaway is plain: this deal’s price has changed before, and nothing says it will stay at $179.

What buyers report

The listing shows 4.76 stars from 224 reviews and 5,047 buyers. Of those reviews, 201 are five tacos, and 9 are one or two.

The founder answers fast. Nearly every review we read had a reply from “julian_hedy,” usually the same or next day. In August 2026 a buyer switching from Granola asked for session sharing without the recipient making an account; their update says the fix was live “Less than three days later.”

A careful privacy check passed. An August 2026 reviewer running a UK coaching practice says Hedy has “a proper DPA covers UK GDPR,” EU data residency for new accounts, and local transcription. They add that their lifetime licence “transferred between accounts without fuss.”

Phone systems can drive it. An October 2026 reviewer records customer calls from a PC softphone and sends transcripts by webhook into their own customer system. They note meeting detection “only covers Zoom, Teams and Webex,” and say support then built start and stop links for the next release.

Not everyone gets value. An August 2026 three-taco review from a senior professional says the suggested questions were accurate but none were “surprising,” adding: “I would have returned it, but I missed the window.” In June 2026 a buyer testing Norwegian and English got “gibberish” and refunded; the founder replied that this “isn’t the Norwegian experience we usually see.” In September 2026 another buyer reported slow starts when recording or un-pausing.

Speaker labels and real-time speed. An April 2026 coach found feedback “too slow to be useful during a live session” and said Hedy struggled to tell coach from client. The founder replied that a better speaker-separating model had shipped on macOS, with other platforms to follow.

Questions to watch. In October 2026 a Deaf and hard-of-hearing user asked about live captioning and phone calls; the founder pointed to a newer speech model and the free plan to test it. Albato support has been requested since January 2025 and was still “a feature request we are monitoring” in October 2026.

The terms

The deal terms read:

  • “For iPhone users, the app requires an iPhone 12 or newer.”
  • “For Android users, the app requires Android 12 or newer.”
  • “For macOS users, the app requires an M1 chipset or newer, with macOS 15 or newer.”
  • “For Windows users, the app requires Windows 10 or newer. A device with a dedicated GPU is recommended for optimal performance.”
  • “Please note: This deal is not stackable.”
  • “All future Pro Plan updates.”
  • “You must redeem your code(s) within 60 days of purchase.”
  • “Lifetime access to Hedy AI.”

The guarantee line reads “Plus members are covered by our We Got Your Back guarantee.” The listing also says “Refundable up to 60 days.”

Hedy AI vs Granola and Otter.ai

The listing names Granola and Otter.ai as the tools it replaces. We didn’t price either for this review. What we can say from Hedy’s side: it runs as an app on your own device rather than a bot that joins the call, and the founder wrote in April 2026 that direct bot integration is something “we do not plan on,” so you decide whether to tell others you’re using it. Two reviewers compared it with Granola: one in August 2026 said it “Exceeds Granola,” another said early sessions were “much lower than Granola” but improving. A buyer who relies on Otter for live captions asked in October whether Hedy could match it; the founder pointed to a newer speech model and suggested trying the free plan first. If you’re coming from a bot-based recorder, skip the assumption that Hedy will sit in your Zoom call for you; it captures from your own device.

Common mistakes with the Hedy AI deal

Buying for an Intel Mac or an old phone. The terms set an M1 and macOS 15 floor, and iPhone 12 or newer.

Expecting the web app to record. It was described as read-only in March 2026.

Buying one code for a team. It’s not stackable, and Team plan features aren’t included.

Counting on coaching for a whole day. Automatic suggestions stop after 120 minutes in each session.

Assuming a bot will join calls. It won’t. When you join a call, you start Hedy yourself, on a device that can hear the meeting.

Waiting too long to judge it. One reviewer missed the refund window. Don’t skip the long-meeting test; use it in real meetings in the first few weeks.

Who Hedy AI suits

A consultant or coach in back-to-back calls. Unlimited sessions, prep notes from Topics, and summaries after each call.

A privacy-minded professional. On-device recognition, EU data residency for new accounts and a published DPA.

A builder of workflows. Webhooks, API, Zapier, n8n and MCP, if you want transcripts flowing into your own tools.

A team wanting a shared workspace. Skip the deal; that’s Hedy’s Team plan, which this licence doesn’t include.

How to test it inside the refund window

Sixty days is plenty if you’ve planned the tests. Most people miss the slow ones, like a two-hour call, so book those early.

  1. Install on every device you’ll use, including Windows, and check each meets the terms.
  2. Run three real meetings in your main language, including one over 120 minutes.
  3. Test speaker separation in a call with two or more people talking over each other.
  4. Connect one integration, a webhook or Zapier, and send a summary through.
  5. Ask support one hard question about your setup and note how long the answer takes.

What we couldn’t check

We didn’t record meetings, measure accuracy or test the apps on any device. We couldn’t confirm where the listing’s “$1,188/yr” comparison comes from, or past AppSumo prices beyond what one reviewer and the founder each wrote. We also couldn’t confirm whether Windows is still in beta, since the listing and Hedy’s pricing page differ. Settle those before day 60.

FAQ: Hedy AI questions

Is Hedy AI a one-time payment on AppSumo?

Yes. The Pro Plan is $179 once, as read on 29 October 2026, and it’s refundable up to 60 days.

Is the AppSumo deal cheaper than buying Hedy AI directly?

Yes, on the pages we read. Hedy sells the same Pro lifetime licence for $299, with a 14-day refund window for website purchases.

Does the Hedy AI deal include the Team plan?

No. The founder said in October 2026 that Team and Enterprise plans are not part of the Pro licence, and the deal isn’t stackable.

Does Hedy AI work on an Intel Mac?

Not under the deal terms, which require “an M1 chipset or newer, with macOS 15 or newer.”

The verdict

Hedy AI is a well-reviewed meeting assistant from a small, responsive team, and the AppSumo deal is $120 under Hedy’s own lifetime price with four times the refund window. It’s a clear buy for one person who sits in a lot of meetings on recent hardware. The device floor, the single non-stackable seat, the 120-minute suggestion cap and a guarantee that covers only Plus members keep it from scoring higher. Honestly, check your devices first, then run real meetings before day 60.
