Picbolt review: the screenshot tools last forever, the free AI doesn't

Picbolt turns screenshots into mockups, code images and social graphics in the browser, for $49 once on AppSumo. The non-AI tools are unlimited; the built-in AI runs for a limited time, then needs your own API key.

Bottom line: Picbolt is a browser-based design tool for one job: turning plain screenshots into polished visuals, with frames, backgrounds, device mockups, code images and social-proof cards. On AppSumo it sells one Lifetime Plan for $49. Picbolt’s own site sells the same lifetime plan for $199. The detail to understand before buying is the AI. Asked about credits on the listing in September 2026, the founder answered: “There are no monthly credits. Non AI tools usage is unlimited and AI tools has 6 months validity (unlimited usage for now) after that users are required to use their own api key.” So you’re buying a screenshot editor for life, plus AI image tools that run on a shared allowance for a while and on your own API key afterwards. The listing is “Not covered by We Got Your Back.”

Best for: SaaS founders, bloggers and course creators who post product screenshots every week and want them to look designed.

Think twice if: you mainly want AI image generation, or you need a desktop screen-capture app.

We have no affiliate deal with Picbolt or AppSumo; links go to the official pages. How we review.

Updated 29 October 2026. This Picbolt review rests on what we read that day: the Picbolt listing on AppSumo, including the plan card, deal terms, buyer reviews and the founder’s answers, and Picbolt’s own pricing page. We haven’t built a campaign with it, so we describe the plan, the AI terms and what buyers report, not how your images will look.

What Picbolt does

Picbolt runs in the browser, with nothing to install. Its own footer says “All processing happens in your browser.” You paste or upload a screenshot, and the editor wraps it in a frame, background and shadow with what the listing calls one-click polish. From the listing and the pricing page, the main tools are:

  • Screenshot beautifier, with backgrounds, frames, shadows, text, arrows, icons and several images on one canvas.
  • Device mockups for showing an app or website on a phone, tablet or laptop.
  • Code images, which format a snippet into a readable, styled block.
  • Social-proof templates for testimonials and reviews.
  • More than 100 templates, per the listing’s founder story, and “40+ Powerful Tools” on the pricing page.
  • AI tools, which buyers describe as including logo design, Pinterest pins and quick infographics.

The plan card lists custom branding, full AI tools access, no watermark, 4K export, premium mockups, all templates and unlimited mockup downloads.

The AI catch

Here’s what most people miss on this listing: the plan card says “Full AI tools access,” but the AI doesn’t run on a permanent allowance. Three answers on the listing set out how it works.

No monthly credits. In September 2026 a buyer asked where the information on monthly credits was. The founder replied that there are none, that non-AI tools are unlimited, and that AI tools have “6 months validity,” after which you use your own API key.

The period was extended once. In November 2025 the founder told another buyer that the credit duration had been increased and “now effectively lasts almost 11 months.” The two answers don’t give the same figure, so ask which period applies on the day you buy.

Bring your own key. After the shared allowance, AI generation runs on your own API key. Picbolt added Straico support in August 2025, with DALL-E 3 and Ideogram models, and in February 2026 the founder said OpenRouter and Google image models were coming “in the next release” for bring-your-own-key users.

Picbolt’s own pricing page says the same thing in one line: its $199 lifetime plan includes “Full AI tools access (API key required).” So the honest way to value the deal is this: $49 buys the screenshot tools for good, and the AI is a bonus with an end date.

Picbolt free plan vs the lifetime deal

Picbolt’s pricing page lists a Free plan with limited tools, basic templates and “3 Mockup Downloads / day.” Its comparison crosses out standard-quality export, no watermark, AI tools and premium templates on the free tier, so free exports carry a watermark.

PlanPriceIncludes
Lifetime Plan (AppSumo)
One creator
$49 once All templates and premium mockups, 4K export, no watermark, custom branding, AI tools for a limited period, then your own API key

One plan on AppSumo, no stacking. Picbolt's own pricing page sells its lifetime plan at $199 (shown against $299) with 'Full AI tools access (API key required)', and a Free plan with 3 mockup downloads a day.

Prices checked Oct 29, 2026 on Picbolt’s own pricing page. Lifetime deals are listings that can end or change, so check the live listing before you buy.

The paid plan removes the watermark, opens premium templates and mockups, lifts the download cap and allows 4K export. If you’ve got a handful of screenshots a week, the free plan tells you quickly whether the editor fits how you work.

What buyers report

Twelve reviews is a small sample, so read these as signals, not a verdict.

Speed is the selling point. A February 2026 review said that while Canva is “much more complete,” for quick screenshot jobs “nothing beats this tool.”

A screen-capture extension is the top request. Two of the reviews we read asked for a Chrome extension, and a third for a way to capture just part of the screen. The founder said in February 2026 that one is “already in the pipeline.” Today you capture with your own tool first, or with Picbolt’s in-browser capture and then crop.

The domain scare. In May 2026 a buyer saw “The domain has expired” when trying to log in. The founder explained it as “a temporary DNS issue with our domain provider” lasting a few hours and said “the product has not been abandoned.” Another buyer said it had been unavailable “all day.” It’s resolved, but worth knowing about a small team’s single point of failure.

Monthly AI credits are wanted. A November 2025 review asked for “at least 500 credits” a month of AI for life. The founder said they would explore it; we found no change since.

The terms

The deal terms read:

  • “Lifetime access to Picbolt.”
  • “All future Lifetime Plan updates.”
  • “No codes, no stacking—just choose the plan that is right for you.”
  • “You must activate your license within 60 days of purchase.”
  • “This deal cannot be upgraded or downgraded between license tiers.”

There’s one plan, so the last line matters little. The guarantee line does. The listing shows “Not covered by We Got Your Back. Listed by the partner, not reviewed by AppSumo.” The 60-day refund still applies, so use it.

Picbolt vs Canva

The listing names Canva as the alternative. That comparison is fair only for one slice of Canva: making a screenshot look good fast. Canva is a full design suite with video, print, presentations and a far bigger template library. Picbolt is narrower and quicker for screenshots, mockups and code images. If you’ve already got Canva and use it daily, don’t buy Picbolt to replace it; buy it only if the screenshot workflow is where you lose time.

Common mistakes with the Picbolt deal

Buying it for the AI. The AI allowance ends, then you pay your own provider. When you value the deal, value the screenshot tools.

Skipping the API-key setup. In practice, set up your own key before the shared period ends, so you’re not stuck mid-project.

Expecting a desktop capture app. It’s a browser editor. Keep your usual capture tool until the extension ships.

Forgetting the free plan exists. Try the editor free for a week with three mockups a day. If you don’t open it twice, skip the deal.

Leaving activation for later. The licence must be activated within 60 days of purchase.

Assuming the 11-month figure. One founder answer says 6 months, an older one says almost 11. Ask in writing.

Who Picbolt suits

A SaaS founder with a changelog. Weekly product screenshots, code images and launch graphics are exactly its job.

A blogger or course creator. Tutorials with framed, annotated screenshots look cleaner with less work.

A designer already fluent in Figma or Canva. You probably don’t need it.

Someone who mainly wants AI images. Skip it; the AI is the temporary part.

How to test it inside the refund window

  1. Activate the licence on the day you buy.
  2. Rework five real screenshots from your last post or product page.
  3. Export one at 4K and check text sharpness.
  4. Try three AI tools and note what you’d actually use.
  5. Ask support in writing how long your AI allowance runs and which API keys are supported.

What we couldn’t check

We didn’t design with Picbolt, test export quality or measure the AI tools. We couldn’t confirm the current length of the shared AI allowance, since the founder’s answers give 6 months and almost 11. Those are the questions to settle before day 60.

FAQ: Picbolt questions

Is Picbolt a one-time payment on AppSumo?

Yes. One Lifetime Plan for $49, with no stacking. Picbolt’s own site lists its lifetime plan at $199.

Does Picbolt include AI credits?

There are no monthly AI credits. The founder says AI use is unlimited for a limited period, then you need your own API key.

Does Picbolt have a free plan?

Yes. Picbolt’s pricing page lists a Free plan with basic templates and 3 mockup downloads a day; free exports carry a watermark.

Is Picbolt covered by AppSumo’s guarantee?

No. The listing says “Not covered by We Got Your Back,” though it is refundable up to 60 days.

The verdict

Picbolt is a fast, focused screenshot editor, and $49 once is a fair price for that alone, against $199 on its own site. Treat the AI as a time-limited bonus that becomes bring-your-own-key, not as part of the lifetime value. Weigh the missing AppSumo guarantee, the small review sample and the one-day domain outage, and use the refund window to see if it saves you real time each week.
