PlugThis AI review: the lifetime deal counts your builds, the subscription doesn't

PlugThis AI turns a plain-English description into a Manifest V3 Chrome extension. AppSumo sells five tiers from $39 to $499 once, each with a monthly generation allowance, from 20 to 500. What that allowance means, and how it compares with PlugThis' own plans.

Bottom line: PlugThis AI is a web app that writes Chrome extensions for you. You describe what you want in plain English, it generates the full Manifest V3 source, checks the permissions, and hands you a zip you can install or submit to the Chrome Web Store. On AppSumo it sells five tiers, from $39 to $499 once, read on 29 October 2026. The detail that matters most is the monthly generation allowance on each tier: 20 a month on Tier 1, rising to 500 on Tier 5, and they don’t roll over. PlugThis’ own monthly plans advertise “Unlimited chats” under a fair-use cap instead. The listing is “Refundable up to 60 days,” and its guarantee line reads “Plus members are covered by our We Got Your Back guarantee,” so that extra cover applies only if you’re an AppSumo Plus member.

Best for: solo founders, marketers and non-developers who want to turn a repeated browser chore into their own extension, and developers who want a fast first draft.

Think twice if: you need Firefox support, want to import an extension you already have, or expect to iterate dozens of times a month on the cheapest tier.

Updated 29 October 2026. This PlugThis AI review rests on what we read that day: the PlugThis AI listing on AppSumo, including all five plans, the deal terms, the FAQ, buyer questions and reviews, plus PlugThis’ own pricing page and its refund policy. We haven’t built an extension with it, so we describe the plans, the limits and what buyers report, not build quality.

What PlugThis AI does

PlugThis is a builder that runs in your browser and outputs Chrome extensions. The listing calls it “a Chrome-native builder that turns a plain-English description into a working extension, ready to install,” and names Lovable and Replit as the subscription tools it’s an alternative to. The company behind it is small: the listing shows a 2026 founding date, India, a team of 1-10 people, and “Bootstrapped.” Udaya_Prakash answers most questions on the page as the founder.

The build loop, as the listing describes it:

  • Describe it. A one-sentence prompt sets what the extension does, which sites it runs on and what interface it needs. Templates and “idea starters” give you a starting point.
  • Generate it. PlugThis writes the manifest, content scripts, background service worker and popup, then validates permissions and “cross-file consistency.”
  • Refine it. You ask for changes in chat and see a live preview, or edit files yourself in the built-in code editor. GitHub sync and version history with diffs are included.
  • Ship it. Download the zip and load it at chrome://extensions, share a client preview link, or use the Chrome Web Store readiness check, which prepares a privacy policy, terms and promo slides.

The integrations listed are Google Gemini, OpenAI, Supabase, Chrome Web Store publishing and “Groq BYOK.” Supabase is how an extension gets a real backend: the FAQ says you connect your own Supabase account and PlugThis “wires up auth, a database and storage.” Every plan card ticks the same nine features: a Discover library, Chrome Web Store readiness, full-stack builds, store promo assets, auto-generated privacy policy and terms, GitHub sync, version history, public share links and “Own all code.”

The generation cap most people miss

Here’s the line most people miss. Every AppSumo tier carries a fixed number of “Generations per month,” and the FAQ is direct about it: “generations are monthly and don’t roll over; top-ups are available.” A generation is one build or one change from the AI.

PlugThis’ own pricing page reads differently. Both of its subscriptions promise “Unlimited chats to build and refine” under a footnote: “Fair use. No per-chat limit and no counter in your way. A high monthly cap exists to stop abuse.” So the lifetime deal and the subscription don’t meter use the same way. If you’ve used AI coding tools before, you’ll know a tricky feature can take many rounds to get right, and on Tier 1 each round comes out of 20 a month.

The FAQ does soften the count. It says “You pay only for builds that pass”: a build that fails verification, an error, a turn that changes nothing, a repair of PlugThis’ own defect and your own code edits “all cost nothing.” The founder’s update on the listing also says direct code edits in the editor spend no generation. Those exclusions matter, but they don’t cover the case buyers describe most often, which is a build that works but isn’t yet what you wanted.

Buyer reviews show how fast generations can go. A September 2026 reviewer who calls themselves non-technical says the tool helped them succeed “though lots of generations were required.” Another, writing in Spanish in September 2026, describes 9 or 10 failed attempts on an extension for a login-protected government portal before support stepped in; they say the founder credited generations back twice. Turns out the first build is rarely the last one. In practice, the number to plan around is rounds of changes, not extensions.

A related question sits open on the listing. On 23 October 2026 a buyer asked whether “monthly generation limits [are] guaranteed for LTD users, or could infrastructure costs reduce build capacity?” The founder replied on 24 October, splitting each answer into what’s true today and what isn’t decided, but the part about limits was cut off behind “Read more” when we read it. We couldn’t confirm that answer.

The plans

Every tier is a one-time price with “Lifetime access.” The listing shows struck-through prices of $129, $339, $649, $929 and $1,579 against the five tiers; those are the listing’s own “was” figures, and its page title compares the deal with “$120/yr.”

One-time prices on AppSumo, read 29 October 2026; the listing shows struck-through prices of $129, $339, $649, $929 and $1,579. PlugThis' own site lists Starter $9.99 a month (1 extension) and Builder $29.99 a month (3 extensions), both with fair-use 'Unlimited chats' and a 14-day money-back guarantee on the first payment.

Prices checked Oct 29, 2026 on PlugThis AI’s own pricing page. Lifetime deals are listings that can end or change, so check the live listing before you buy.

“Extensions” means live projects, not a lifetime count. The FAQ says Tier 1’s single slot is “One live project at a time, not one ever”: build a tool, download it, delete the project, and the slot is free for the next idea while the downloaded extension keeps working. Honestly, that’s a fairer reading than the plan card suggests.

Picking a tier: four worked examples

One chore, one extension. A recruiter wants a button that saves a profile into a spreadsheet. If the first build gets close and it takes eight rounds of changes to finish, that’s 8 of Tier 1’s 20 generations for the month. Tier 1 at $39 is enough when you’re patient and spread bigger changes across months.

A tricky site. Take the Spanish-language reviewer’s case: 9 or 10 attempts on one login-protected page, before support explained the AI was “working blind.” On Tier 1 that’s half the month gone on a single wrong turn. When you’re building against sites behind a login, Tier 2’s 60 a month gives far more room for $70 more.

A freelancer selling extensions to clients. Three clients, each needing a build plus about 15 rounds of revisions, comes to roughly 48 generations a month and three live projects. That fits Tier 2’s 3 extensions and 60 generations with a small margin. A fourth client pushes you to Tier 3’s 8 projects and 180 generations.

A small team. Tier 4 gives 15 seats and 300 generations a month, which works out to 20 each if everyone builds equally. The founder’s roadmap post lists “per-user and per-workspace generation limits” as going live, so one person can’t spend the whole team’s month.

Don’t forget the per-dollar maths, too. Tier 1 buys about 0.5 generations a month per dollar ($39 for 20), Tier 3 about 0.8 ($229 for 180), and Tier 5 roughly 1 ($499 for 500). Bigger tiers are better value only if you’ll actually use the volume.

The deal vs PlugThis’ own plans

PlugThis’ own pricing page, read on 29 October 2026, lists two monthly subscriptions:

PlugThis’ own planPriceExtensionsUse
Starter$9.99 a month1“Unlimited chats” (fair use)
Builder$29.99 a month3“Unlimited chats” (fair use), full-stack (Supabase + LLM), priority support

The deal terms promise “All future Starter (Tier 1), Builder (Tiers 2-5) plan updates.” So Tier 1 maps to Starter and every other tier to Builder, even though Tiers 3 to 5 allow more extensions and seats than Builder’s three. Builder lists “Priority support” and “Full-stack (Supabase + LLM)”; the AppSumo cards tick “Full stack builds” on every tier, Tier 1 included.

The break-even sums are short. Tier 1 at $39 equals about four months of Starter. Tier 2 at $109 equals about 3.6 months of Builder, and Tier 3 at $229 about 7.6 months. In practice the deal pays for itself within a year on any tier, if you keep building. What you give up is the unmetered “fair use” chat allowance, so a heavy month on Tier 1 hits a wall that a Starter subscriber wouldn’t see.

The refund terms favour AppSumo. PlugThis’ own policy offers a “14-Day Money Back Guarantee” on your first subscription payment; AppSumo’s listing says “Refundable up to 60 days.”

What buyers report

The listing shows 4.95 stars from 22 reviews, 21 of them five tacos and one four, and 598 buyers. All five reviews we read date from early September 2026.

Non-developers get working extensions. A 3 September reviewer says they’d tried building an extension with an AI chat before and failed, and that with PlugThis the final version is “working as expected with all important features.” A 6 September reviewer says they built three extensions, including an Amazon review-analysis tool running on their own OpenRouter key, and that it “took me a few hours to get everything right.”

Platform limits still bite. A 4 September reviewer built an extension with a side panel, Supabase and AI scoring, and says PlugThis “didn’t magically eliminate” Chrome Web Store scripting restrictions and CORS. They combined it with ChatGPT and real browser testing, and asked for earlier warnings when an approach is blocked by the platform.

Support is the founder. Almost every review mentions the founder by name. One 7 September buyer hit what the founder calls “a real bug in our packaging step” that blocked their download, and stayed until it was fixed. The questions tab says the team is “Expected to respond within 24 hours.”

Recent questions. On 24 October 2026 a buyer asked whether builds need their own AI key; the founder answered on 26 October that “Every chat and build in PlugThis runs on our built-in AI,” and a key is needed only when the extension you build uses AI itself. On 12 October the founder told another buyer that a PlugThis extension runs “only while Chrome and Gmail are open,” so a server-side tool like SaneBox can’t be copied fully. A 29 October question about bulk-listing 200 products had no answer yet when we read it.

The terms

The deal terms read:

  • “Get lifetime access to PlugThis AI.”
  • “All future Starter (Tier 1), Builder (Tiers 2-5) plan updates.”
  • “If the plan name linked to your deal changes, it will automatically transfer to the new plan with all updates.”
  • “This deal is only for brand-new PlugThis AI users—no previous accounts, trials, or paid plans with this partner.”
  • “Activate your license within 60 days—you can upgrade while the deal is live but can only downgrade within 60 days of purchase.”

The listing says “Refundable up to 60 days” and “Plus members are covered by our We Got Your Back guarantee.” The new-user rule is the one to note: if you’ve already tried PlugThis on a trial or paid plan, the deal says it isn’t for you.

PlugThis AI vs Lovable, Replit and a chat assistant

The listing names Lovable and Replit as the subscription tools it replaces. Both are general app builders; PlugThis’ pitch is that “Most AI builders output web app code, which breaks as soon as Chrome tries to run it.” We didn’t price Lovable or Replit for this review, and we haven’t compared their output. The fairer question for most buyers is ChatGPT or Claude, which several reviewers used alongside PlugThis. The FAQ’s answer is that a chat assistant gives you code and leaves you to make it load, get permissions right, package it and fix it, while PlugThis checks permissions, clicks through the build in a real Chrome, and keeps versions. One reviewer, though, says Claude solved their problem in three prompts where PlugThis took ten attempts, until support supplied the missing page structure. If you’ve already got a working workflow with a chat assistant, skip the deal unless the packaging and store-listing steps are what slows you down.

Common mistakes with the PlugThis AI deal

Reading generations as unlimited. They’re a monthly allowance, from 20 to 500, with no rollover.

Expecting to import an existing extension. The FAQ says “No, and better you know before you buy.” Code goes out to GitHub or a zip; it doesn’t come back in. Don’t forget that when you plan to polish a build in another editor.

Buying for Firefox. The FAQ lists Chromium browsers only: “Firefox: not today.”

Trying the subscription first, then the deal. The terms limit the deal to “brand-new PlugThis AI users.”

Leaving a downgrade too late. You can only downgrade within 60 days of purchase.

Prompting blind on login-only pages. When the site sits behind a login, paste the page’s real HTML into the chat, as support advised one buyer, before spending generations.

Who PlugThis AI suits

A non-developer with one repeated browser chore. Tier 1 or Tier 2 covers a single tool built over a few weeks.

A freelancer building extensions for clients. Tier 2 or 3; you own the code and the FAQ says client work ships with “no PlugThis branding anywhere in the output.”

A small team or agency. Tier 4 or 5, for seats, workspaces and unlimited projects.

A Firefox user, or anyone with an existing codebase to extend. Skip the deal for now; neither case is supported yet.

How to test it inside the refund window

  1. Build the extension you actually need first, not a demo, and count the generations it takes.
  2. Push it to a hard page, one behind a login or with dynamic content, and see how many rounds it costs.
  3. Edit a file by hand in the code editor and confirm your generation count doesn’t move when you save.
  4. Run the Web Store readiness check and read the generated privacy policy and terms before you rely on them.
  5. Export to GitHub and load the zip at chrome://extensions in a clean browser profile.

What we couldn’t check

We didn’t build an extension, so we can’t speak to code quality, how often builds pass first time, or how well the store-readiness check works. We couldn’t read the founder’s full 24 October answer on whether lifetime generation limits are guaranteed. The plan cards list a Discover library of “35 extensions” while the FAQ says “About 45 extensions,” and we couldn’t confirm which is current. We couldn’t see how much generation top-ups cost. PlugThis’ refund policy page shows “Last updated: October 24, 2023,” which sits oddly with the listing’s 2026 founding date.

FAQ: PlugThis AI questions

Is PlugThis AI a one-time payment on AppSumo?

Yes. The five tiers cost $39, $109, $229, $349 and $499 once, read on 29 October 2026, each with lifetime access.

How many generations do I get?

20 a month on Tier 1, then 60, 180, 300 and 500. They reset monthly and don’t roll over; failed builds and your own code edits don’t count, per the FAQ.

Do I need my own AI key?

Not to build. The founder says builds run on PlugThis’ built-in AI. An extension that uses AI itself runs on your own key.

Does PlugThis AI work with Firefox?

No. The FAQ lists Chrome, Edge, Brave, Opera, Vivaldi and Arc, and says “Firefox: not today.”

The verdict

Honestly, PlugThis AI is a focused tool with an unusually engaged founder and a near-perfect early rating. The deal is cheap against PlugThis’ own subscriptions, and the 60-day refund is four times the vendor’s. The catch is the monthly generation cap, which the subscription doesn’t have, so Tier 1 suits patient builders with one project, and anyone iterating heavily should look at Tier 2 or above. Build your real extension inside the first few weeks, count the generations, and decide before day 60.
