Bottom line: Prismical is an AI note taker that records what plays through your computer’s speakers plus your microphone, so no meeting bot joins the call. It transcribes with open-source Whisper on your own machine or with cloud models, labels speakers, and writes a summary with decisions and action items when you stop. On AppSumo it sells four tiers, $59, $149, $329 and $749 once, for 1 to 30 users. The deal terms promise “All future Premium Plan updates,” but the tiers aren’t the same as Prismical’s own Premium plan. Tier 1 crosses out BYOK, Ask AI, floating mode, automations and team features, caps cloud transcription at 20 hours a month and recordings at 60 minutes. Local transcription is unlimited on every tier. The refund window is 60 days, and the guarantee line reads “Plus members are covered by our We Got Your Back guarantee.”
Best for: consultants, remote teams and lecturers who want meeting notes without a bot in the call and like the idea of transcribing on their own hardware.
Think twice if: you need to upload existing audio or video files, you run long meetings in a language other than English, or you’re counting on bringing your own AI keys on Tier 1.

Updated 29 October 2026. This Prismical review rests on what we read that day: the Prismical listing on AppSumo, including all four plan cards, the deal terms, the questions and all 18 reviews, and Prismical’s own pricing page with its plan comparison and FAQ. We haven’t recorded a meeting with it, so we describe the plans, the limits and what buyers report, not transcription accuracy.

What Prismical does
Prismical captures system audio alongside your microphone, which is why it works with any call app that plays sound through your computer. The listing names Zoom, Google Meet, Microsoft Teams, Slack and Webex. Nobody in the meeting sees a bot join, and nobody gets a recording notice from a third attendee. That’s the whole pitch, and honestly it’s a fair one: plenty of people dislike note-taking bots arriving in client calls.
What the listing says every buyer gets:
- Live transcripts with speaker identification while the conversation runs.
- Local or cloud transcription. Local runs open-source Whisper on your desktop, “with no account required”; cloud uses provider models.
- Automatic summaries with key decisions and action items as soon as you stop recording, and the option to accept, refine or reject AI edits before they land in your notes.
- Apps for Mac, Windows, iOS and Android, plus a web app. One buyer says they use one licence on a Mac, iPad and iPhone at no extra cost, and the plan cards tick “Unlimited devices.”
- MCP and API access, so ChatGPT, Claude and Gemini can read and write your notes, plus calendar sync and note sharing.
Prismical’s own site calls it an “Open-source AI note taker,” links to its GitHub, and offers a free-forever plan. Buyers on the listing say it comes from the team behind Amical, a dictation app, and the download links on Prismical’s site point to a GitHub account named after Amical. The founder card on AppSumo shows a 2026 start, Canada, a team of 1-10 people, bootstrapped.
What most people miss: Tier 1 is not Premium
Here’s the line most people miss. The deal terms read “All future Premium Plan updates,” and Premium on Prismical’s own site means unlimited transcription, unlimited team members, two-hour recordings, speaker identification and “Bring your own AI keys (BYOK).” Turns out the AppSumo tiers are their own thing, built on Premium’s update path but with their own caps.
When you open the plan cards, the gap is plain. Tier 1 has a cross against five features: Ask AI, Floating mode, BYOK, Automations/webhooks and Team features. Tiers 2, 3 and 4 tick all five. Every tier caps cloud transcription by the month and gives a fixed pool of AI credits, where Premium says “Unlimited transcription.” And Tier 1’s recording length is “Standard (60 minutes),” against two hours on Premium and “Extended (120 minutes)” on the higher tiers.
The founder’s message on the listing adds to the confusion. It says Prismical transcribes “on-device or through your own OpenAI/Claude keys, so there are zero usage caps.” On Tier 1 that’s half true. The on-device half holds, since local transcription is “Unlimited.” The own-keys half doesn’t, because BYOK is crossed out on that tier. If you’ve read the founder’s note and planned to plug in your own OpenAI key to avoid the 20-hour cloud cap, you’ll need Tier 2 or above.
None of this makes Tier 1 a bad buy. In practice, someone recording on a laptop can run everything through local Whisper and never touch the cloud hours. It just means “Premium updates” describes which product line you’re on, not which features you get.
The four AppSumo tiers
Every tier is lifetime access, read on 29 October 2026:
| Tier | Price | Users | Cloud hours a month | AI credits a month | Summaries | Recording |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Tier 1 | $59 | 1 | 20 | 100 | Standard models | 60 minutes |
| Tier 2 | $149 | 3 | 60 | 300 | Pro models | 120 minutes |
| Tier 3 | $329 | 10 | 180 | 1,000 | Pro models | 120 minutes |
| Tier 4 | $749 | 30 | 600 | 3,000 | Pro models | 120 minutes |
| Plan | Price |
|---|---|
| License Tier 1 One person, calls under an hour |
$59 once |
| License Tier 2 Small teams, BYOK |
$149 once |
| License Tier 3 Agencies and departments |
$329 once |
| License Tier 4 Teams up to 30 |
$749 once |
One-time prices on AppSumo, read 29 October 2026; one licence per tier, no codes or stacking, and the listing showed the deal ending in 8 days. Prismical's own site lists Free ($0, 300 minutes a month, 30-minute recordings), Premium at $10 a month per user billed yearly or $14 monthly (unlimited transcription, 2-hour recordings, speaker identification, BYOK) and custom-priced Enterprise.
Prices checked Oct 29, 2026 on Prismical’s own pricing page. Lifetime deals are listings that can end or change, so check the live listing before you buy.
All four tick notes sharing, unlimited devices, speaker identification, API + MCP and AI skills, and all four list local model transcription as unlimited. The listing’s questions page shows a struck-through price on each tier: $120, $360, $1,200 and $3,600, with “51% off” next to Tier 1. Those figures are the listing’s own, and they match one year of Prismical’s Premium plan at $120 per user for 1, 3, 10 and 30 users. We wouldn’t treat them as savings, because the tiers carry caps Premium doesn’t.
The deal is time-limited. The listing showed “Deal ends in” with eight days left when we read it, and the terms allow upgrades between tiers only “while the deal is available.” Downgrades are allowed “within 60 days of purchase.” There are no codes and no stacking. If you’ve bought stacked codes on other deals, skip the arithmetic here: you just pick a tier.
Picking a tier: four worked examples
These sums use only the plan-card numbers. We can’t tell you how fast an AI credit is spent, because neither page says what one credit buys.
A solo consultant on a laptop. Four one-hour client calls a week is about 17 hours a month. That fits inside Tier 1’s 20 cloud hours even if every call went to the cloud, and local Whisper costs nothing against the cap. The catch is the 60-minute recording limit. If your workshops run 90 minutes, you’ll be splitting recordings, and one Tier 1 buyer wrote in September 2026 that the “60 min recording cap on Tier 1 gets restrictive.” They moved to Tier 2. When you’re unsure, count how many of last month’s calls ran past an hour.
A three-person studio. Tier 2 gives 60 cloud hours a month, which is 20 hours per person, plus 120-minute recordings and team features. At $149 that’s about $49.67 a user once. On Prismical’s own Premium plan, three seats cost $360 a year, so Tier 2 costs roughly five months of Premium for those three people. Honestly, it’s the tier we’d shortlist first for a small group, because it’s the cheapest one with BYOK and team features.
A ten-person agency. Tier 3’s 180 hours works out at 18 hours each a month, a little over four hours a week per person. For a sales team on calls all day, that’s thin, and the fallback is local transcription on each person’s desktop. At $329 it’s $32.90 a user.
A thirty-seat team. Tier 4 is 600 hours, or 20 hours a seat, at $749, which is under $25 a user. Prismical’s own Premium for 30 seats lists at $3,600 a year. Don’t forget the team-workspace quirk below before you invite everyone.
The deal vs Prismical’s own plans
Prismical’s own pricing, read on 29 October 2026:
| Prismical’s own plan | Price | Transcription | Recording | Seats |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Free | $0 | 300 minutes a month | 30 minutes | 1 |
| Premium | $10 a month per user yearly, or $14 monthly | Unlimited | 2 hours | Unlimited |
| Enterprise | Custom | Unlimited | Custom | Unlimited |
Two things stand out. First, the free plan is real and doesn’t expire. Prismical’s FAQ says it doesn’t do time-limited trials and offers “a genuinely free-forever plan” instead, with 300 minutes of transcription a month, notes sharing, API and MCP access. Its comparison table marks speaker identification and BYOK as “Not included” on Free. So when you want to try the bot-free recording, you can do it today without buying anything, which is the cheapest test there is.
Second, the AppSumo tiers sit between Free and Premium. They add speaker identification and longer recordings over Free, but they cap cloud hours that Premium leaves unlimited. If you’d pay for Premium anyway, Tier 1 at $59 costs about half of one year of a single Premium seat on yearly billing. Honestly, the value case is strongest for a heavy desktop user who’ll lean on local Whisper, and weakest for someone who wants unlimited cloud transcription from a phone.
What buyers report
The listing shows 4.39 stars from 18 reviews, and the newest ones are more mixed than the oldest.
The bot-free capture lands well. Several September 2026 reviewers, including a paid AppSumo product tester who says so up front, describe live transcripts with speaker labels and useful summaries without a bot joining the call. A university lecturer liked the local Whisper option for recordings that “should not leave the institution,” but asked for academic note templates and full right-to-left support for Arabic.
Accuracy varies by speaker and language. On 6 October 2026 a buyer who tested it on three calls, including a court hearing, put accuracy for other speakers at “about 60-70%” and said support hadn’t replied in five days; they wondered whether Australian English was the cause. On 14 October another buyer said it didn’t follow a Greek meeting and that an issue was still under investigation after six days. On 20 October a buyer asked whether poor live transcription was their fault. We saw no answer. If you’ve got strong accents or non-English calls in your week, test those before anything else.
Support is uneven. The founder answered a billing question within a day in October and fixed a team-account problem on Discord. But the newest review, from 27 October 2026, is titled “Doesn’t seem to be actively maintained” and says most of that buyer’s support tickets were unresolved. A 14 October reviewer, by contrast, called the app polished and was planning to move up to Tier 4 for their agency.
No file upload yet. A September Tier 1 reviewer listed “no audio import feature for existing recordings,” and on 28 October a Deaf buyer asked whether uploading existing audio and video files will come to the lifetime deal. There was no answer when we read it. One buyer also asked on 2 October whether transcripts carry timestamps, with no reply shown.
A team-workspace quirk. On 24 October a Tier 2 buyer said an invited partner was still on the free plan. The founder’s fix: the invited user may need to switch from their free personal workspace to the paid one, from the profile menu at the bottom left.
The terms
The deal terms read:
- “Lifetime access to Prismical.”
- “All future Premium Plan updates.”
- “If Plan name changes, deal will be mapped to the new Plan name with all accompanying updates.”
- “No codes, no stacking—just choose the plan that’s right for you.”
- “You must activate your license within 60 days of purchase.”
- “Ability to upgrade between 4 license tiers while the deal is available.”
- “Ability to downgrade between 4 license tiers within 60 days of purchase.”
The refund line reads “Refundable up to 60 days,” and the guarantee line reads “Plus members are covered by our We Got Your Back guarantee.” That covers AppSumo Plus members only, so don’t forget to check your own account before relying on it.
Prismical vs Granola and Otter.ai
The listing names Granola and Otter.ai as the tools Prismical replaces, and reviewers mention Fireflies and Voicenotes. We didn’t read or price any of those for this review, so we won’t compare features or accuracy. What we can say from Prismical’s own pages: it records system audio rather than sending a bot into the call, it can transcribe locally on desktop with Whisper, and its notes connect to AI assistants through MCP. If a bot joining the call doesn’t bother you, the reason to pick Prismical narrows to local transcription and the one-time price. Skip the comparison shopping until you’ve tried the free plan on a real call.
Common mistakes with the Prismical deal
Assuming Tier 1 includes BYOK. The founder’s note mentions your own keys, but Tier 1’s card crosses BYOK out. Tier 2 and up have it.
Reading “Premium Plan updates” as the Premium plan. The tiers cap cloud hours and AI credits; Premium says unlimited transcription.
Buying Tier 1 for long meetings. Recordings stop at 60 minutes on Tier 1. In practice, two-hour sessions need Tier 2.
Expecting to upload old recordings. Buyers report no audio import yet. If you’ve got a backlog of files rather than live calls, wait.
Inviting a team without the workspace step. Invited users may land in their free personal workspace and need to switch.
Waiting to upgrade. Tier upgrades only work while the deal is live, and the listing showed eight days left.
Who Prismical suits
A consultant who hates meeting bots. Tier 1 covers a normal week of calls, provided they run under an hour.
A small remote team. Tier 2 adds three users, team features, BYOK and two-hour recordings.
A privacy-minded lecturer or researcher. Local Whisper keeps recordings on the machine, though when you work in a language other than English, test it first.
Anyone transcribing files, or court and tribunal work. Skip it for now; buyers report no file import and uneven accuracy on other speakers.
How to test it inside the refund window
- Start on the free plan first. It’s free forever, so record a real call before you spend anything.
- Record your hardest call with several speakers, in your working language, and compare the transcript line by line.
- Run a meeting past 60 minutes if you’re on Tier 1, and see exactly what happens at the cap.
- Invite a teammate and confirm they land in the paid workspace with the paid features.
- Don’t skip the support check. Send one question in week one, note how long the reply takes, then decide well before day 60.
What we couldn’t check
We didn’t record or transcribe anything, so we can’t judge accuracy. We couldn’t find what one AI credit buys, whether phone recordings use local transcription or draw on the cloud hours, or when audio file upload will arrive. We also couldn’t confirm how often the app is updated, given the 27 October review saying it seems unmaintained. Settle those with support before day 60.
FAQ: Prismical questions
Is Prismical a one-time payment on AppSumo?
Yes. Tier 1 is $59, Tier 2 $149, Tier 3 $329 and Tier 4 $749, once, for 1, 3, 10 or 30 users.
Does the Prismical lifetime deal include bring-your-own-key?
Not on Tier 1. Its plan card crosses out BYOK; Tiers 2, 3 and 4 tick it.
Does Prismical send a bot into my meetings?
No. It records the audio your computer plays plus your microphone, so no bot joins the call.
Is there a free version of Prismical?
Yes. Prismical’s own site lists a free-forever plan with 300 minutes of transcription a month and 30-minute recordings, without speaker identification or BYOK.
The verdict
Prismical has a clear idea, notes without a bot in the call, and a privacy angle few note takers offer: local Whisper transcription with no cap. The AppSumo tiers are cheap next to a year of Premium seats, refundable for 60 days, and easy to move between while the deal lasts. But Tier 1 leaves out BYOK and Ask AI and stops recordings at an hour, the newest reviews report weak accuracy on other speakers and slow support, and there’s no file upload yet. Turns out the best first step costs nothing: try the free plan on a real call, and if it holds up, Tier 2 is the safer buy.
