SurFast Video Downloader review: cheap per computer, but only as good as its latest fix

SurFast Video Downloader saves video, audio, playlists and subtitles from 1,000+ sites on Windows or Mac. AppSumo sells one code for two computers at $19 once, below Nabla Mind's own lifetime price. Downloads break when sites change, and both the vendor's terms and YouTube's limit what you may save.

Bottom line: SurFast Video Downloader is a desktop app from Nabla Mind, a bootstrapped team of 1-10 people in China. You paste a link, pick a format and quality, and it saves the video, the audio, the subtitles or the thumbnail. It handles playlists, whole channels, clips cut from a longer video and batches of up to 50 links. On AppSumo one code costs $19 once and activates two computers; you can buy up to five codes. Nabla Mind’s own lifetime licence is $45.95 for three PCs, so the deal is cheaper per computer and comes with a 60-day refund window. Two catches matter more than the price. Downloads break when video sites change, and buyers report weeks-long gaps until a fix arrives. And Nabla Mind’s own terms say its tools are meant for content “you have the legal right to access,” while YouTube’s terms forbid downloading except where YouTube or the rights holders allow it. The listing is “Not covered by We Got Your Back.”

Best for: creators backing up their own uploads, teachers and trainers saving material they have permission to use, and anyone who needs subtitles or audio from their own videos.

Think twice if: you want to save other people’s videos without permission, you depend on one niche site working every day, or you need a mobile app.

Updated 29 October 2026. This SurFast Video Downloader review rests on what we read that day: the SurFast Video Downloader listing on AppSumo, including all five plans, the deal terms, questions and reviews, Nabla Mind’s buy page, Terms & Conditions, License Agreement and Refund Policy, and YouTube’s Terms of Service. We haven’t installed or run it, so we describe the plans, the terms and what buyers report, not download speeds or quality.

What SurFast Video Downloader does

SurFast runs on your computer, not in a browser tab. The listing’s FAQ says it works on “Windows 7/8/8.1/10/11 and macOS X 10.10 or higher.” When you paste a link, it reads the page and lets you choose what to save. The features on every AppSumo plan card:

  • Video and audio: downloads up to 8K, converts to MP3, extracts audio, and saves songs and whole albums.
  • Bulk: whole playlists and channels, and up to 50 pasted links in one batch.
  • Clips: cut and download only part of a video, by time or with a slider.
  • Subtitles and thumbnails: “Rip and burn subtitles” and “Rip thumbnails.”
  • Live streams and tracking: download live streams, and track playlists or channels so new uploads download on a schedule.
  • Private videos: content you can already see when logged in.
  • Browser: a Chrome extension, which the FAQ says “requires the desktop application to function.”

The FAQ lists video output as MP4, WebM, MOV, AVI, FLV, MKV and GIF, and audio as MP3, WAV, M4A, FLAC, OGG, AAC, ALAC and OPUS. A June 2025 founder post on the listing announced subtitle export in SRT, VTT, LRC and ASS, Instagram Story downloads, multi-language audio tracks and “Non-DRM Udemy Course Download.” On the Questions tab in October 2026, the team said the app is “completely ad-free,” saves thumbnails but not screenshots, and offers “3 free downloads” from its own site so you can try it first.

The two things most people miss

Downloads break when sites change

Honestly, this is the decisive limit, and the founders say it themselves. A co-founder’s April 2025 post on the listing reads: “Video platforms frequently update, which can cause temporary download issues.” The Questions tab shows what that looks like in practice. On 27 August 2026 a buyer wrote that it “Stopped working 10 days ago.” On 2 and 3 October two more buyers said YouTube downloads failed. The support team’s answer in early October was the same each time: check that your component version reads 2026.08.21 and restart the app to pull the update. A buyer who reviewed it on 31 August said they couldn’t download anything for “last 2 months or so,” and the team’s reply the next day said: “We confirm that there were multiple download failures in the past months.”

None of this is unusual for a video downloader. Turns out every tool in this category is in a running contest with the sites it reads. What it means for you is simple: don’t buy it for a task with a hard deadline unless you’ve got a fallback. And when you hit a failed download, don’t forget to check the component version before you email support.

What you’re allowed to download

The second thing is permission, and honestly, it’s the part a cheap price makes easy to skip. Here’s what each side says, read on 29 October 2026.

Nabla Mind’s own Terms & Conditions, under “Copyright and Content Usage”:

“Downloading copyrighted material without the permission of the copyright owner is strictly prohibited.” “Our tools are intended for downloading content you have the legal right to access (e.g., public domain, Creative Commons, or your own content).”

The same section says “Users are solely responsible” for copyright compliance. Its License Agreement grants use “for any legal purpose.” The listing’s FAQ adds that SurFast can save private content you can access by logging in, but “it does not support downloading private videos from other users’ accounts.”

YouTube’s Terms of Service, the version served to us that day, which is dated January 5, 2022, say you “may view or listen to Content for your personal, non-commercial use,” and then list what you’re not allowed to do, starting with:

“access, reproduce, download, distribute, transmit, broadcast, display, sell, license, alter, modify or otherwise use any part of the Service or any Content except: (a) as expressly authorized by the Service; or (b) with prior written permission from YouTube and, if applicable, the respective rights holders”

We’re not lawyers, and we can’t tell you whether a given download is legal where you live; copyright law differs by country and those terms are a contract, not a statute. What we can say is what the pages say. Both the vendor and YouTube point the same way, so our recommendation is to download only content you own or have permission to use: your own uploads, material licensed to you, Creative Commons or public-domain work, or files a rights holder has said you can keep. When you’re not sure whether you have permission, the answer is to ask the owner first, not to download and hope.

Plans and what they cost

AppSumo sells five plans, read on 29 October 2026. Each card shows the same feature list and the same line, “2 (Windows or Mac) Lifetime license,” with a struck-through price the listing calls “62% off.”

One-time prices on AppSumo, read 29 October 2026; each plan is a number of stacked codes (1 to 5), struck-through 'was' prices $50 to $250 per the listing. Nabla Mind's own site sells, for 3 PCs / 3 Macs: 1-Month $9.95 / $9.95, 1-Year $35.95 / $39.95, Lifetime $45.95 / $49.95, excluding tax, with a 30-day refund for technical reasons only.

Prices checked Oct 29, 2026 on SurFast Video Downloader’s own pricing page. Lifetime deals are listings that can end or change, so check the live listing before you buy.

The device count per code is confirmed on the Questions tab. On 20 September 2026 the team answered a buyer moving to a new machine: “One code can be used on two computers,” and if you run out of activations, email support with your code “We will reset it for you.”

One thing doesn’t add up. The deal terms shown on the page list four items, none about stacking. But the listing’s page data, which we read in its source, also holds a fifth term: “Stack up to 4 codes to unlock up to 8 PCs.” Yet AppSumo sells a 5-code plan at $95. We couldn’t tell which applies. If you need ten computers, ask on the Questions tab before buying the fifth code.

Picking a plan: worked examples

One person, a laptop and a desktop. One code, $19, covers both machines. Nabla Mind’s own cheapest lifetime licence is $45.95 for three PCs, so if you’ve only got two computers, the AppSumo code costs $26.95 less.

A creator with three Windows PCs. Two codes, $38, give four activations. The direct lifetime licence covers exactly three for $45.95. AppSumo is $7.95 cheaper and leaves one spare slot for a new machine.

A small team with eight computers. If you’ve got eight machines, four codes, $76, cover all eight, and that’s within the “up to 8 PCs” stacking line. Buying direct, you’d need three lifetime licences for nine PCs: 3 x $45.95 = $137.85. That’s $61.85 more.

A mixed Windows and Mac household. This is where it gets murky. Nabla Mind’s own buy page says “The license is not cross-platform,” so a Windows licence activates only PCs. The AppSumo card says “2 (Windows or Mac),” which reads as either-or. We couldn’t confirm whether one AppSumo code can activate one PC and one Mac. In practice, if you’ve got both, plan on one code per platform until support says otherwise.

Per computer, the AppSumo price works out at $9.50, the same figure AppSumo’s own review summary quotes. The direct lifetime price is about $15.32 per PC, or $16.65 per Mac.

The deal vs Nabla Mind’s own prices

Nabla Mind’s buy page, read on 29 October 2026, sells three licence types, each for three computers of one platform. Prices exclude tax.

Nabla Mind planWindows (3 PCs)Mac (3 Macs)
1-Month License$9.95, auto-renews$9.95, auto-renews
1-Year License$35.95, auto-renews$39.95, auto-renews
Lifetime License$45.95 once$49.95 once

The deal terms promise “All future Lifetime Plan updates,” and Nabla Mind’s own site has a plan called exactly that, Lifetime License, with “Lifetime free upgrades.” So the update line maps cleanly, which isn’t true of every deal we read. The difference is the device count: two computers per AppSumo code, three per direct licence.

The refund rules differ more. AppSumo’s listing says “Refundable up to 60 days.” Nabla Mind’s own Refund Policy gives 30 days, or 7 for a monthly plan, and adds: “Refund requests based on non-technical reasons will not be accepted” and “Refunds will not be issued for products that have already been successfully used by the customer.” It also says purchases made elsewhere fall under “the refund policies of the relevant reseller,” which for this deal means AppSumo. If you’re unsure, that longer, plainer window is the strongest reason to buy through AppSumo, because when you find a site doesn’t work in week five, you can still get your money back.

What buyers report

The listing shows 4.38 stars from 117 reviews, with 4,462 bought. The spread is wide: 91 five-taco ratings, 7 four, 2 three, 7 two and 10 one. That shape fits a tool that works well until a site changes.

Happy bulk users. A July 2026 reviewer used it mostly on YouTube and X, plus Dailymotion and Skool, and called bulk downloads “the best feature.” They said they first had problems getting it running and fixed them with the knowledge base. A September 2026 buyer called it “really affordable” and asked for a mobile version.

Breaks, then fixes. A September 2026 reviewer said every YouTube download failed on a fresh install, then later updated the review: “Current version working well.”

Narrower than “1,000+ sites” for some. An October 2026 reviewer said it worked well for YouTube “but does not really work for other sites,” that the Chrome extension didn’t pick up videos such as Vimeo, and that some YouTube videos required logging in to YouTube inside the app, which they refused to do. The team replied that public videos, Shorts and live videos download fine, and asked for the link.

Site support isn’t promised. In September 2026 a buyer said it didn’t work on Skool. The team’s reply: “We never claimed that our software supports Skool.”

Support answers were quick on what we read, usually the same day or within a few days, and always from the founder team account. In practice, the fix for most complaints was the same: update the component and restart.

The terms

The deal terms shown on the listing read:

  • “Lifetime access to SurFast Video Downloader.”
  • “All future Lifetime Plan updates.”
  • “If Plan name changes, deal will be mapped to the new Plan name with all accompanying updates.”
  • “You must redeem your code(s) within 60 days of purchase.”

The page’s data also carries “Stack up to 4 codes to unlock up to 8 PCs,” which isn’t in the visible list. The guarantee line reads “Not covered by We Got Your Back. Listed by the partner, not reviewed by AppSumo.” The refund window is still 60 days.

SurFast Video Downloader vs 4K Video Downloader and yt-dlp

The listing names both as alternatives. yt-dlp’s own GitHub page describes it as “a feature-rich command-line audio/video downloader,” released under the Unlicense, so it’s free; you run it by typing commands rather than clicking. SurFast’s case against it is the point-and-click interface, scheduled tracking and a support inbox. If you’ve never used a terminal, that difference is real; if you have, yt-dlp may be all you need. We didn’t price or read 4K Video Downloader for this review, so we make no claim about it. The same permission rules apply whichever tool you use: YouTube’s terms don’t change because the downloader is free.

Common mistakes with the SurFast Video Downloader deal

Assuming “1,000+ sites” means every site. Most people miss this one. Test the exact sites you need inside the refund window. Skool, for one, isn’t promised.

Buying for content you don’t have rights to. Nabla Mind’s terms prohibit downloading copyrighted material without permission, and YouTube’s terms restrict downloading too.

Expecting one code to cover a PC and a Mac. The vendor’s own licences aren’t cross-platform. Don’t trust the “Windows or Mac” wording alone; ask first.

Buying the 5-code plan without asking. Don’t bother with a fifth code until support confirms it; the page data says stacking stops at 4 codes and 8 PCs.

Panicking at the first failed download. Check the component version in About, restart, then email support with the exact link.

Forgetting the 60-day redemption window. When you buy several codes, redeem every one straight away.

Who SurFast Video Downloader suits

A YouTuber backing up their own channel. Playlist and channel downloads, plus subtitles, cover an archive job well.

A teacher or trainer with licensed material. Clips and audio extraction help when you have permission to use the source.

A podcaster converting their own video episodes to audio. Eight audio formats, including FLAC and MP3.

Anyone who needs a guaranteed daily download from one niche site. Skip the deal, or keep a second tool ready.

How to test it inside the refund window

  1. Use the 3 free downloads first from Nabla Mind’s site, on your own content.
  2. Redeem one code and activate both computers you plan to use, including a Mac if you have one.
  3. Try every site you rely on, with a link you have permission to save.
  4. Run a full playlist of your own uploads and check the subtitle and audio output.
  5. Email support with one question and time the reply before day 60.

What we couldn’t check

We didn’t install the app, so we can’t speak to download speed, 8K quality or how often it fails today. We couldn’t confirm whether one AppSumo code can activate one Windows PC and one Mac, or whether a fifth stacked code works given the “up to 4 codes” term in the page data. We read only the YouTube terms version served to us that day. We can’t give legal advice on any particular download; check the law where you live and the terms of the site you’re saving from.

FAQ: SurFast Video Downloader questions

Is SurFast Video Downloader a one-time payment on AppSumo?

Yes. One code is $19 once for two computers, and plans run up to five codes for $95, read on 29 October 2026.

Is it legal to download YouTube videos with SurFast?

We can’t answer that for your country. YouTube’s terms forbid downloading except as authorised by YouTube or with permission from YouTube and the rights holders, and Nabla Mind’s terms say its tools are for content you have the legal right to access. Download only what you own or have permission to use.

Why did SurFast stop downloading?

The founders say platform updates cause temporary failures. On the listing, support asks buyers to check the component version in About and restart to update.

Is the AppSumo deal cheaper than buying direct?

Per computer, yes: $9.50 on AppSumo against $45.95 for three PCs on Nabla Mind’s own lifetime plan, with a 60-day refund instead of 30 days.

The verdict

SurFast Video Downloader covers a lot for $19: playlists, channels, clips, subtitles, audio formats and scheduled tracking, on Windows or Mac. The AppSumo code is cheaper per computer than Nabla Mind’s own lifetime licence and comes with a longer, simpler refund window. It loses points for the download failures buyers documented through August and September 2026, the unclear stacking and cross-platform rules, and the missing AppSumo guarantee. Above all, read it as a tool for your own content and content you’re permitted to keep. That’s what the vendor’s terms say it’s for, and YouTube’s terms leave little room for anything else.
