AppSumo Code Expired? What to Do, and Who to Contact

An AppSumo code has a redemption deadline, even though the access it buys can last as long as the product. What to try when it lapses, who to email, and how to tell an expired code from an ended deal.

AppSumo code expired: what to do? First, try redeeming it anyway, because AppSumo’s help center says partners sometimes allow “a bit of a grace period” after the deadline. If the partner’s site still refuses it, email the partner’s support team with the product name, the code and a screenshot, and contact support@appsumo.com only if that goes nowhere. Codes do expire: each deal sets a redemption deadline, often 60 days from purchase, and AppSumo can’t force a partner to accept a late one. Once you’ve redeemed, though, an expired code changes nothing about your access.

Do AppSumo codes expire?

Yes. AppSumo’s Expired Deals article says “all deals have expiration dates for when the codes are no longer accepted by our Partners.” You’ll see that date in the redemption instructions for each purchase.

The same page draws a distinction most people miss: “While your access to the product can last a lifetime, the coupon itself has an expiration date.” There are two clocks. The coupon clock decides how long you have to turn a code into an account. The access clock runs for as long as the product and your plan exist. An expired coupon only matters if you never used it.

One caution about that source. When we read it on 31 October 2026, the Expired Deals article showed “Last updated on May 10, 2023”, much older than AppSumo’s other code pages, which were updated in May 2026. Its advice still lines up with them in substance, but treat its tone as three years old.

Where the deadline comes from

Most deal pages state it in the Deal Terms box. On 29 October 2026 we read the Formly listing, a form and survey builder. Its terms said “You must redeem your code(s) within 60 days of purchase,” along with “Stack up to 5 codes” and “Refundable up to 60 days.” Dozens of the 97 AppSumo listings we checked that week used the same 60-day redemption wording.

So the deadline usually runs from the day you pay, not from the day you remember. That’s the trap. A code bought in a sale and parked in your account keeps counting down, quietly.

To check your own dates, go to the “Products” page of your AppSumo account, open the “Actions” dropdown next to the deal and choose “Redemption information”. AppSumo’s Codes and Redemption Instructions article (last updated 20 May 2026) gives that route. The “Filter:” dropdown there can show only “Not Redeemed” items, which is the quickest way to find codes at risk.

Step by step: what to do when a code has expired

1. Rule out a simpler error. Before assuming expiry, read AppSumo’s Invalid Codes page. It says the error sometimes appears “because a space is entered to the right or left of the code when copying it and pasting it into the redemption field.” Paste the code into a plain text box, trim it, and try again.

2. Try redeeming anyway. AppSumo’s words: “You could attempt redeeming/ activate your purchase although it’s expired as sometimes partners give a bit of a grace period following the expiration date.” Note the hedges: “sometimes” and “a bit of”. A grace period can exist. It isn’t promised.

3. Email the partner. Find their support address in the “Need Help?” section of Redemption information. Include the product name, the code, your purchase date and a screenshot of the error. Ask politely for a late redemption. You’re asking a favour, not enforcing a right.

4. Use one channel and wait. AppSumo’s Contacting Partners article (last updated 9 February 2026) asks buyers to “Reach out through a single channel,” and warns that replies “can take a few business days” because many partners are small teams.

5. Then, if needed, AppSumo. The Expired Deals page asks you to “reach out to our Support team at support@appsumo.com if you have any questions or concerns after speaking with our partners.” Go to the partner first.

Where AppSumo’s own pages disagree

Here’s a tension worth naming. The older Expired Deals article invites you to contact AppSumo support after talking to the partner. The newer Codes and Redemption Instructions article says: “AppSumo is not responsible for assisting with late redemption or activation requests of products.”

Both can be true at once. AppSumo will answer your email; it just isn’t promising to get a late code accepted. The Expired Deals page explains why: “as a 3rd party reseller, we can’t control whether or not codes or licenses stay live after the expiration date.” The partner decides. And AppSumo is frank about their side too: “Many of our partners are small teams and reactivating an expired purchase takes a ton of developer resources, which may not be feasible for some.”

In practice, set your expectations low and your email tone warm. Honestly, a short, polite message with a screenshot gets further than a long complaint.

A worked example: a Formly code bought in September

Take a hypothetical buyer and Formly’s terms as we read them on 29 October 2026. One code cost $99 and gave Plan 1: unlimited forms and responses, 50 AI-generated forms as a lifetime total, one user and 5 GB of storage.

  • 1 September 2026: they buy one code for $99 and don’t redeem it.
  • 31 October 2026: day 60. Both the redemption deadline in the deal terms and the 60-day refund window end today.
  • 3 November 2026: they remember the code. It’s day 63.

What’s left at that point? The refund route is closed. AppSumo’s refund policy (last updated 31 August 2026) says “once the refund window has passed, you will not be able to process a return,” and adds that “unredeemed or unused tools cannot be refunded outside our refund window.” The redemption route depends entirely on Formly. Their best move is steps 1 to 5 above, in that order, starting the same day.

Turns out three days late is a very different request from three months late. If you’ve only just missed the date, email at once; a small team is more likely to help with a fresh purchase than a stale one.

A good message is short. Name the product, paste the code, give the purchase date from your invoice, attach the screenshot, and say plainly that you missed the deadline. When you explain what you plan to use the tool for, the request reads as a real customer rather than a stockpiler. Don’t argue that “lifetime” means the code should never lapse; the help center is clear that the coupon and the access are separate things. Our AppSumo refund policy guide explains why the money side can’t be reopened once the window shuts.

Code expired vs deal ended vs terms changed

These three get confused all the time, and they need different responses.

What happenedWhat it meansWhat to do
Your code expiredYou missed the redemption deadline before using itTry anyway, then email the partner
The deal ended or sold outThe listing left the store; already redeemed codes keep workingNothing, unless you wanted to add codes or upgrade
The deal terms changedThe listing now shows different limitsCompare with the terms on the day you bought

When a deal ends, you lose the chance to buy more. AppSumo’s What is Stacking? page says extra codes can be stacked “before it sells out”, and its licence upgrade article says that after a sellout “you will only see the option to downgrade.” Your redeemed plan doesn’t vanish because the listing closed.

When terms change, AppSumo’s My Deal Terms Changed article (last updated 15 October 2026) says the standard is the deal page “at the time of purchase.” If a deal comes back with fewer features, “you’re still grandfathered into the feature limits from your original purchase.” If it improves, partners “have to grandfather your account into the improved deal too.” When a mismatch shows in your account, report it and AppSumo says it will look into it. If an old deal page has been removed, support can send you the details.

When the product itself closes, that’s a different problem again. Our guide on what happens if an AppSumo product shuts down covers it.

How to never face an expired code again

AppSumo’s own advice is the best advice here: redeem “right away so you don’t forget, even if you don’t plan on using the tool yet.” That lets you test it inside the refund window too.

  • Redeem on the day you buy. Not the weekend. Today.
  • Click “Mark as Redeemed” in your redemption instructions, since AppSumo can’t track redemption for you.
  • Put day 60 in your calendar, or whatever deadline the terms set.
  • Screenshot the Deal Terms at checkout, so you can prove what you bought later.
  • Check “Not Redeemed” monthly with the Products page filter.

Don’t forget extra stacked codes. Each one is its own row, and each needs redeeming. Skip the habit of buying several deals in a sale and “sorting them out later”; that’s exactly how codes expire. Our guide on how AppSumo codes work walks through the whole redemption flow.

FAQ: expired AppSumo code questions

Can I still redeem an expired AppSumo code?

Sometimes. AppSumo says you can try, because “sometimes partners give a bit of a grace period.” If the partner’s site refuses it, email their support team with the code and a screenshot. Whether they accept it is their decision, not AppSumo’s.

Does an expired code mean I lose access to my tool?

No, not if you already redeemed it. AppSumo says your “access to the product can last a lifetime” while “the coupon itself has an expiration date.” The deadline only affects codes that were never redeemed.

Can I get a refund on an expired, unused AppSumo code?

Not once the refund window has passed. AppSumo’s refund policy says unredeemed or unused tools can’t be refunded outside that window. On many listings, both the redemption deadline and the refund window are 60 days from purchase.

Who do I contact about an expired AppSumo code?

The partner first, using the “Need Help?” contact in Redemption information. If you still have questions after speaking with them, email support@appsumo.com. AppSumo’s newer codes article notes it isn’t responsible for assisting with late redemption requests.

The short version

  • AppSumo codes expire; many deals give you 60 days from purchase to redeem.
  • An expired code only matters if you never redeemed it; redeemed access isn’t affected.
  • Try redeeming anyway, then email the partner with the code and a screenshot.
  • AppSumo can’t force a late redemption, and the refund window closes on schedule.
  • Redeem the day you buy and keep a screenshot of the Deal Terms.
