AppSumo gives you a full refund of the purchase price, for any reason, as long as you ask inside the refund window printed on that deal’s page. Most lifetime deals have a 60-day window, a few have 30 days, and some listings are not refundable at all. You request it yourself from the Products page of your AppSumo account, the money usually goes back the way you paid (some purchases offer AppSumo credits instead), and the refund is final: your access to the tool ends, and you may not be able to buy it again.

What AppSumo’s own pages say
We read AppSumo’s Help Center and Terms of Use on 31 October 2026. The core rule sits in the Refund Policy article (last updated 31 August 2026): a refundable sale gets “a full refund of the purchase price within the timeframe stated on the deal page (ex: 30 days, 60 days).” The same article says you can refund “for any reason within this allotted time.”
So the window belongs to the listing, not to AppSumo as a whole. That’s the first thing most people miss.
Two other AppSumo pages describe it a little differently, and it’s worth knowing that before you trust a single number. The We Got Your Back guarantee (also updated 31 August 2026) says “Most products listed on AppSumo’s Marketplace are fully-refundable for any reason within 60 days of purchase.” The Terms of Use (last modified 11 February 2025) say Lifetime Deals “typically have a 60-day refund period that begins the day you purchase,” and that other products have shorter ones. None of these pages contradicts the others outright, but only the Refund Policy tells you where the real answer lives: the Deal Terms on the listing in front of you.
Which deals can’t be refunded
AppSumo says plainly that “some listings, such as digital downloads, cannot be returned or refunded.” Its Plus membership is also non-refundable once you’ve used its rewards, though you can cancel before the next renewal.
Turns out the exceptions aren’t only digital downloads. Of the AppSumo deals we reviewed on 29 October 2026, 92 showed a 60-day window, one showed 30 days, and four were marked non-refundable:
- AahSheet: the listing said “Not refundable” and “this deal is not eligible for refunds or downgrades.”
- Better Sheets, Flat Icons and Link Chest: the deal terms said “This deal is non-refundable,” while the plan box on the same page still said “Refundable up to 60 days.”
That last pattern is the one to watch. When one listing gives you two answers, honestly, treat the stricter one as true. Our Link Chest review records it as having no refund window we could rely on, because the vendor’s own FAQ also states a strict no-refund policy.
There’s a third kind of exception: add-ons. On SheetXAI, the Excel add-on and the AI credit packs were marked “Non-refundable” even though the main plans were refundable for 60 days. When you buy extras alongside a deal, check each one separately.
How long the window is, and when it closes
The clock starts on your purchase date, not on the day you redeem your code. AppSumo is firm about the end: “once the refund window has passed, you will not be able to process a return for your purchase,” and “unredeemed or unused tools cannot be refunded outside our refund window.”
In practice that means a code sitting unredeemed in your account is still ageing. If you’ve bought five deals in a sale and opened none of them, all five windows are running.
AppSumo doesn’t say whether the purchase day counts as day one, so don’t plan around the final day. Treat the day before as your real deadline.
How to request a refund, step by step
AppSumo’s How to request a refund article (updated 19 May 2026) gives these steps:
- Go to the Products page of your AppSumo account.
- Next to the deal you want to return, open the Actions dropdown and choose Refund. It’s greyed out if the window has passed or the deal isn’t eligible.
- Click Initiate refund under the refund instructions.
- Pick a refund reason and click Continue.
- Choose your refund method, if you’re offered a choice, then click Confirm and initiate refund.
When you bought several codes of the same deal (stacking), each code shows as its own line on the Products page, so you’d pick the line you want to return. If you only want a smaller plan rather than your money back, AppSumo points you to its license upgrade and downgrade article instead. Many deal terms allow downgrades only within the first 60 days, so the same deadline applies.
If the Refund option won’t work, AppSumo says its fraud checks sometimes switch off automatic refunds, and its support team at support@appsumo.com will process the request by hand. Its separate refund activity article adds that accounts with many refunds may see manual review, and “in rare cases” may lose access to future refunds.
Where the money goes, and how fast
The Refund FAQ covers this. “Refunds are immediate on our part,” it says, but your payment provider sets the pace after that:
- PayPal: you should get an email from PayPal right away.
- Debit or credit card: allow your bank 5 to 10 business days.
- AppSumo credits: they’re returned to your account instantly.
A refund within 24 hours of buying “may be processed as a purchase reversal” and simply vanish from your statement, rather than showing a charge and a return.
On store credit versus your original payment: for some purchases you’ll see an option to take the refund as AppSumo credits, at 1 credit to 1 US dollar, but “not all purchases are eligible.” Once the refund is processed, you can’t switch the method you picked. Our guide to AppSumo credits explains what that balance can and can’t do.
Don’t forget coupons. AppSumo’s coupon article says that when you refund a deal bought with a coupon, you get back the amount you actually paid, and the coupon isn’t restored or reissued.
What happens to your redeemed code
This is the part people regret. The FAQ says “refunds are final,” and “your access to the tool will be deactivated.” If the deal has ended, “our contract with the partner has expired and we cannot sell any more copies of the product.” In other words, a refunded deal that’s no longer on sale can’t be bought back at that price, or perhaps at all.
Whatever you built inside the tool sits on the vendor’s servers, not AppSumo’s. Before you refund, export your forms, documents or data from the tool itself. AppSumo’s pages don’t say how long a vendor keeps data after deactivation, and in practice that varies by vendor, so assume it could go the moment the refund goes through.
Redemption happens on the partner’s site, and AppSumo says it can’t see whether you’ve redeemed a code. That’s why the “Mark as Redeemed” button exists on your Redemption information page. It’s only a note for you.
A worked timeline with real deals
Here’s how two real listings from our reviews play out. Prices and terms are as AppSumo showed them on 29 October 2026; the purchase dates are just an example.
Formly, 60-day window. Say you buy Formly’s Plan 2 on 1 November 2026. That’s two stacked codes at $198, the first tier on the listing with every feature ticked and 3 users, as our Formly review notes. Sixty days from 1 November lands on 31 December 2026. Treat 30 December as your deadline.
- Day 1 (1 Nov): redeem both codes from Redemption information, and put 30 December in your calendar.
- Day 2 to 14: move one real form and its responses into Formly. Check the AI form limits, since the review notes the lifetime AI cap is the main gap against Formly’s own Gold plan.
- Around day 30 (1 Dec): decide whether you need both codes. If one is enough, you could refund one code line ($99 back) and keep the other.
- Day 59 (30 Dec): keep it, or refund it. After 31 December the Refund option greys out.
Stackby, 30-day window. Stackby’s listing said “refundable only up to 30 days,” and one code was $109 for 1 user and 20 stacks. Buy it the same day and your window ends around 1 December 2026, a full month earlier than Formly’s. If you’ve bought both in the same sale, Stackby is the one to test first.
Most people miss this difference because they remember “AppSumo is 60 days.” Skip the assumption and read each card.
Common mistakes
Buying in a sale and testing later. AppSumo itself suggests you “start using your tool(s) as soon as possible.” Its expired-deals article goes further and recommends redeeming right away, even when you don’t plan to use the tool yet, because codes also have their own expiry date for redemption.
Trusting the 60-day badge on a non-refundable deal. If the deal terms say non-refundable anywhere on the page, assume no refund.
Refunding on impulse. Once you confirm, access ends. If you’re unsure, ask the vendor a question first, or downgrade.
Refunding lots of deals. AppSumo says it reviews refund patterns over time, and its Terms let it refuse refunds to accounts it considers to have requested “an excessive number.”
Paying the vendor directly for an upgrade. AppSumo’s refund policy covers only purchases made through your AppSumo account. If you paid the vendor for an add-on on its own site, the vendor’s refund rules apply.
If it goes wrong
If the Refund button is greyed out but you think you’re inside the window, check the purchase date on your Products page first. Then email support@appsumo.com with the order details. If your card refund hasn’t appeared after 10 business days, check the Refunded filter on the Products page; if the deal is listed there, AppSumo has done its part, and the delay is with your bank. If a tool shuts down after your window has closed, a refund is no longer possible, but AppSumo’s shutdown cover may pay store credit for some deals, which our guide on what happens if an AppSumo product shuts down walks through.
FAQ: AppSumo refund questions
How many days do I have to get an AppSumo refund?
It’s the window stated in that deal’s terms. Most lifetime deals show 60 days and some show 30, counted from the purchase date. A few listings are not refundable at all, so check the Deal Terms before you buy.
Do I need a reason to refund on AppSumo?
No. AppSumo’s Refund Policy says you can refund “for any reason” within the window. You’ll pick a reason from a list during the refund flow, but it doesn’t decide whether you qualify.
Can I get a refund on a deal I never redeemed?
Only inside the window. AppSumo says unredeemed or unused tools can’t be refunded once the window has passed, and the clock starts on your purchase date, not on redemption.
Can I undo an AppSumo refund?
No. AppSumo says refunds are final: your access is deactivated, and if the deal has left the marketplace, you may not be able to buy it again. The refund method can’t be changed afterwards either.
The short version
- AppSumo refunds the full price, for any reason, inside the window on each deal page: usually 60 days, sometimes 30.
- Some deals and add-ons are non-refundable. If a listing says both, trust the stricter line.
- Refund from Products → Actions → Refund; cards take 5 to 10 business days, credits return instantly.
- A refund is final, ends your access, and the deal may not come back.
- Redeem and test on day one, and set your deadline a day early.
