Link Chest review: a guided backlink list, sold with a non-refundable term

Link Chest is SEO Buddy's database of 2,454 places to get a backlink, with a tracker and 500+ how-to guides. AppSumo sells one domain for $89 once. The deal terms say it's non-refundable, and the founder says part of the list is best used sparingly.

Bottom line: Link Chest is a web app from SEO Buddy that lists places where you can get a backlink yourself: directories, review sites, local listings, forums, profiles and so on. SEO Buddy’s own page counts 2,454 of them, with 500+ step-by-step guides and a tracker for each project. On AppSumo it sells three plans, $89, $178 and $267 once, read on 29 October 2026. Plan 1 covers one project or domain. The catch is the refund. The deal terms list “This deal is non-refundable,” while the plan box on the same listing says “Refundable up to 60 days.” SEO Buddy’s own page states a “strict NO REFUND policy.” Treat this as a purchase you can’t undo. The listing is also “Not covered by We Got Your Back.”

Best for: founders and small agencies starting link building on a new English-language site, who want a checklist and are ready to do the submissions themselves or hand them to a VA.

Think twice if: your market isn’t English-speaking, you want backlink monitoring, or you expected links to be built for you.

We have no affiliate deal with SEO Buddy or AppSumo; links go to the official pages. How we review.

Updated 29 October 2026. This Link Chest review rests on what we read that day: the Link Chest listing on AppSumo, including all three plans, the deal terms, questions and reviews, and SEO Buddy’s own Link Chest page with its database counts, pricing and FAQ. We haven’t submitted links with it, so we describe the plans, the database and what buyers report, not ranking results.

Link Chest is a list plus a tracker. You open a project for your domain, browse the opportunities, accept or ignore each one, and follow the link to the exact page where you sign up or submit. It doesn’t place links for you. SEO Buddy’s page is blunt about this, saying the database is “not some secret library” and that you could find these sites yourself “given enough time.”

What the vendor page says you get inside:

  • The database: 2,454 opportunities in 21 categories, from High DA Profile and Directory to Forums, Job Boards, Press Release and Product Launch, each rated Level 1 to Level 5 for difficulty.
  • Filters: by market, industry, language and link type; the page counts 1,178 dofollow, 712 nofollow and 562 unknown.
  • Quality signals: domain traffic and domain rating per site, a spam score, a private blog network risk check, and whether the target page is indexable.
  • Guides: more than 500 step-by-step guides with screenshots, such as a nine-step guide for issuu.com.
  • Tracking: each opportunity carries a status against your project (untouched, to submit, submitted, live links), with notes, task assignment and screenshot uploads for a VA.

The AppSumo listing’s own overview is older. Its 2021 founder update says the chest held “over 325 backlink opportunities,” and SEO Buddy’s page says it launched with 335 in April 2021. In practice, use the vendor page for current counts and the AppSumo page for what you’re buying.

The headline number is 2,454, and most people miss that the founder doesn’t recommend working through all of it. In a September 2024 reply on the listing, SEO Buddy said the “High DA Profile” links in Level 1 “are less powerful and should be used sparingly, or even ignored,” and that bookmarking, URL shortener and article submission links “are best as supplementary backlinks.” The categories the founder pointed buyers to were Directory, Local, Review Sites, Social Profiles, and Deal and Coupon sites.

On SEO Buddy’s page, the High DA Profile tile alone shows 1,200 opportunities. Bookmarking shows 271 and URL Shortener 54. The recommended categories add up to far fewer: Directory 162, Local 310, Review Sites 42, Social 33, Deal 24 and Coupon 29, which is 600.

A caution on those sums. The category tiles add up to more than 2,454, and the difficulty filter shows 2,601 opportunities at Level 1 alone. So the counts overlap or are measured differently, and we can’t say exactly how many unique sites sit in each group. The direction is still clear: the part of the chest the founder rates highest is a few hundred sites, not two and a half thousand.

Turns out the language filter matters just as much. English accounts for 2,210 of the 2,454 opportunities. When a buyer asked in October 2025 about Hungarian sites, the founder answered: “Not really, you can pass…. 95% of value of Link Chest is for English Language website.” The page lists 3 Hungarian opportunities and 29 under the India market.

Plans and how domains are counted

The three AppSumo plan cards read:

  • Plan 1 ($89, struck-through $128): “1 license (which is for one project/domain).”
  • Plan 2 ($178, struck-through $256): “An additional 10 projects/domains licenses.”
  • Plan 3 ($267, struck-through $384): “An additional 20 projects/domains licenses.”

Every card also carries “Lifetime access,” “All features above included,” “Save yourself days of work (and focus on action)” and “Get more organic Google traffic.” The listing shows the struck-through prices next to a “30% off” label; we attribute those figures to the listing, not to any saving we checked.

One-time prices on AppSumo, read 29 October 2026; each plan is a number of stacked codes (1 to 3), shown against struck-through $128, $256 and $384. SEO Buddy's own page sells Link Chest for $19 a month or $99 once for lifetime access, with a strict no-refund policy.

Prices checked Oct 29, 2026 on Link Chest’s own pricing page. Lifetime deals are listings that can end or change, so check the live listing before you buy.

The word “additional” is ambiguous. Read literally, Plan 2 is 1 + 10 = 11 domains and Plan 3 is 21. A Plan 2 buyer in July 2026, though, asked how to activate “the remaining 9 domains,” which reads as 10 in total. The founder’s same-day answer explained where to use the credits (“Manage Project” page), not how many there are. When you’re buying Plan 2 or 3 for a fixed client count, ask first.

One helpful detail from SEO Buddy’s FAQ: you can delete a finished project “to release the credit for use on a new project.” So a licence is a slot, not a permanent tie to one domain.

Picking a plan: three worked examples

One site, starting from zero. Plan 1 at $89 is enough. If you follow the founder’s pace of 10 to 20 quality links a month and stick to the 600 recommended-category opportunities, that’s 30 to 60 months of material on paper. In practice far fewer will fit your niche and country, so think of it as a year or two of steady work.

A freelancer with five client sites. Plan 1 covers one. Plan 2 at $178 covers 10 or 11, depending on how “additional” is read. Per domain that’s about $16 to $18, against $89 for a single Plan 1 code. If you’ve got five sites now, Plan 2 leaves room to grow, and deleting old projects frees slots.

An agency rotating clients. Plan 3 at $267 gives 20 or 21 slots, roughly $13 a domain. Because slots can be released, an agency with 15 active clients at a time could serve many more over the years. Don’t forget that agencies are the buyers most hurt by the English skew if any clients sell in other languages.

The deal vs SEO Buddy’s own price

SEO Buddy’s page, read on 29 October 2026, offers two ways to buy:

SEO Buddy’s own optionPriceNotes on the page
Monthly$19 a month“Cancel any time”
Lifetime access$99 once“Pay once, keep it for good”

AppSumo’s Plan 1 is $89 once, so it’s $10 under the direct lifetime price. The vendor page also says you can “stack subscriptions to get a much better price-per-domain (from as little as $6 per subscription),” ordered from inside the app; it doesn’t say whether that figure is monthly or one-off, and we didn’t check it. Honestly, the clearest saving is on Plans 2 and 3, where a block of 10 or 20 extra domains comes at a fixed one-time price.

In practice, refunds don’t separate the two. SEO Buddy’s own FAQ says “We have a strict NO REFUND policy for the Link Chest,” and explains that buyers could extract the list and then ask for their money back. The AppSumo terms say the same thing, even though the plan box says otherwise.

What buyers report

The listing shows 4.29 stars from 257 reviews. The split is lopsided: 206 five-star reviews and 38 one-star, with very few in between.

Support fixes activation problems. A May 2026 reviewer had trouble activating their code and says SEO Buddy support solved it “quickly and easily.” An August 2024 reviewer says the founder “replies quickly for any account issues,” while adding that the deal “should be refundable.”

Useful, if you come back to it. A February 2025 reviewer bought it, forgot about it, then found it valuable on a second look. Their note: some listed sites, like Instagram, are obvious, “but many, many others are not.”

Some questions wait a long time. In September 2024 a buyer said the “Suggest Opportunity” option was locked and asked them to pay $108 more, and asked how a VA credits option worked. The founder replied in April 2025, about six months later, that the lock would be fixed and that the VA option had been turned off. In December 2025 the same buyer wrote that they were “still looking to access this.”

No monitoring, no imports. Asked in December 2025 about tracking their own links, the founder answered: “Unfortunately, don’t do Backlink Monitoring service,” and said you can’t import your own links either. A 2021 reviewer had raised the same gap.

Early complaints. A three-star review from May 2021 noted redemption errors and said they noticed the non-refundable status “only after redeeming it.” Most of those reviews are years old, so weigh them lightly against the 2026 ones.

The terms

The deal terms read:

  • “Lifetime access to the Link Chest by SEO Buddy”
  • “You must redeem your code within 60 days of purchase”
  • “All future plan updates”
  • “Stack up to 3 codes”
  • “This deal is non-refundable”

The guarantee line reads “No “We Got Your Back” guarantee. This listing is managed by the partner who built the product — we haven’t vetted it, so this guarantee doesn’t apply.” Directly below it, the same box says “Refundable up to 60 days from your purchase date.” The two statements contradict each other, and the vendor’s own policy matches the non-refundable term. If a refund matters to you, get AppSumo to confirm it in writing before you pay.

The listing doesn’t name competitors, so we compare the realistic choices. We didn’t price other backlink tools for this review.

Doing it yourself. Every site in the chest is public. SEO Buddy’s page says compiling the list would take “a week or two.” If you’ve got the time and only need a few dozen directories and local listings, skip the purchase and build your own sheet.

Hiring a VA with the chest. This is the use the product is built for: guides with screenshots, task assignment and confirmation uploads. The VA option inside the app was switched off in 2025, so you bring your own assistant.

Paying for placements. SEO Buddy sells separate services on the same site: a Guest Blog Database, Link Building Campaigns, Link Building Services and an agency plan “from $1,000 a month.” None of these are part of this deal. The chest only gets you the submission-style links you earn by signing up.

Counting on the 60-day refund. The deal terms say non-refundable and the vendor says the same. Buy as if there’s no way back.

Chasing all 2,454 links. Skip the High DA Profile pile at first. The founder says High DA Profile links should be used sparingly and some categories are supplementary. Start with directories, local and review sites.

Buying for a non-English site. If you’ve got clients in other languages, check the filters first. The founder says 95% of the value is for English-language websites.

Expecting a backlink monitor. Some people miss this until after they redeem: it tracks your submissions, not your live link profile.

Buying Plan 2 for exactly 11 clients. Confirm whether it’s 10 or 11 domains first.

Missing the redemption window. Codes must be redeemed within 60 days of purchase.

A founder with a new English-language site. Plan 1 gives a structured checklist for the first few hundred easy links.

A small agency with a VA. Plan 2 or 3, with guides and task assignment for each client project.

A team selling in Hungary, Poland or other smaller markets. Check the language filter first; it may not be worth it.

Anyone who wants links placed for them. Skip it; this is do-it-yourself.

How to test it before you buy

There is no refund to fall back on, so do your checking first.

  1. Open SEO Buddy’s Link Chest page and set the market, language and niche filters to your site’s; note the counts.
  2. Count the recommended categories (directory, local, review, social, deal, coupon) that fit your market.
  3. Read one sample guide, such as the issuu.com walk-through on the vendor page, to judge the level of detail.
  4. Ask on the AppSumo listing whether Plan 2 is 10 or 11 domains and whether the refund line or the non-refundable term applies.
  5. Don’t skip the wait. Get the answer before buying, and redeem within 60 days once you do.

What we couldn’t check

We didn’t open the app, submit links or measure any ranking effect. We couldn’t confirm whether AppSumo would honour the “Refundable up to 60 days” line given the non-refundable term, whether Plan 2 means 10 or 11 domains, or why the vendor’s category and difficulty counts add up to more than 2,454. We also couldn’t verify the vendor’s “4.7/5 from 2,000+ users” figure, or whether the locked “Suggest Opportunity” feature has been fixed for AppSumo buyers.

Is Link Chest a one-time payment on AppSumo?

Yes: $89, $178 or $267 once, for 1 to 3 stacked codes, read on 29 October 2026.

Can I get a refund on the Link Chest deal?

Don’t count on it. The deal terms say “This deal is non-refundable,” and SEO Buddy’s own page states a strict no-refund policy, even though the plan box shows a 60-day line.

Does Link Chest build backlinks for me?

No. It lists sites and guides you through each submission; you or your VA do the work.

Is Link Chest useful for non-English websites?

Mostly not. English covers 2,210 of the 2,454 opportunities, and the founder says 95% of the value is for English-language sites.

The verdict

Link Chest is an honest product in one sense: it says plainly that it’s a curated list of public sites, plus guides and a tracker that save you compiling it. For a new English-language site, or an agency with a VA, the AppSumo plans are slightly cheaper than SEO Buddy’s own lifetime price, and much cheaper per domain on Plans 2 and 3. The score is held back by the non-refundable term that contradicts the listing’s own refund line, the missing AppSumo guarantee, slow answers to some questions, and a database where the founder steers you away from a large share of the links. When you only need a guided list for one English-language site, it’s a fair buy; just buy it knowing you can’t take it back.
