Is AppSumo Plus Worth It? The $99 Break-Even, Worked Out

AppSumo Plus costs $99 a year and takes 10% off every order, plus $100 in coupons on the annual plan. Here's the break-even sum with real deal prices, and who should skip it.

AppSumo Plus is worth it if you buy several deals a year, and usually not if you’re there for one. The annual plan costs $99 and gives 10% off every order, $100 in coupons ($25 every 90 days), extra time on deals and better shutdown cover. On the discount alone you need to spend $990 a year to break even; if you actually use all four coupons, the coupons roughly cover the fee by themselves. The catch: the membership is not refundable once you’ve used its rewards, on a site where most deals carry a 30- or 60-day refund window.

What AppSumo Plus costs and what it includes

We read the AppSumo Plus page today, 31 October 2026. It shows one price: “$99.00/Year”, which it describes as “$8.25/month, billed annually.” The benefits listed on the page:

  • Discount: “10% off every order, automatically.”
  • Coupons: “$100 in coupons ($25 every 90 days)”, with the line “Use it on any deal.”
  • Members-only deals: a “Deals just for Plus” section.
  • More time on deals: “Get more time to decide on every deal, even after the General-Access clock runs out.”
  • Shutdown cover: “If a Select tool closes within one year of purchase, Plus members get 100% back in credits.”
  • Support: “VIP support with 2× faster response times.”
  • Terms: “Not refundable” and “Cancel anytime.”

There’s more than one plan, though the Plus page only prices one. The AppSumo Plus FAQ (last updated 31 August 2026, read today) names three:

PlanWhat the FAQ says it includes
Plus Monthly“All the Plus perks except the quarterly $25 coupon”
Plus Annual“Everything, including a $25 coupon every 90 days”
Plus Pro AnnualEverything in Annual, with purchases “protected for 24 months instead of 12”

We couldn’t find prices for Plus Monthly or Plus Pro Annual on the pages we read today, so we don’t quote them. The worked example below uses the $99 annual plan, the only price AppSumo showed.

Most people miss this one: there’s no extended refund window for deals in what we read. The Plus page offers extra time to buy, not extra time to return.

The refund question: two AppSumo pages, two wordings

Here the pages don’t quite agree, so we’ll quote both.

The Plus page says: “Plus is non-refundable, so be sure to review the details before joining.”

The AppSumo Plus Refund Policy (last updated 31 August 2026) says: “After membership rewards have been used, your AppSumo Plus membership is non-refundable.” The general refund policy uses similar wording: Plus “is non-refundable after rewards have been redeemed.”

The help center wording implies an unused membership might be treated differently; the Plus page doesn’t make that distinction. We’d plan on the stricter reading. Once you’ve used the discount or a coupon, the $99 is spent.

Cancelling is straightforward: you can cancel from the “Plus membership” page of your account. The policy is clear about what that does: “This will cancel your next renewal”. It also says “Cancelling your Plus membership does not refund you for your current subscription”, and “You’ll keep all the benefits until that renewal date too.”

Two more lines from that page matter for timing. Rewards “do not apply until the subscription is active”, and “purchases made before your AppSumo Plus subscription are not eligible for retroactive discounts”. So joining after you check out doesn’t help that order.

Compare that with the deals themselves. Our AppSumo refund policy guide covers the 30- and 60-day windows most listings carry.

The break-even sum, with real deal prices

Here’s the simple version first. Ten percent off means each $100 you spend saves $10. To save $99 from the discount alone, you need to spend $990 in a year.

The coupons change that sum. The Annual plan adds four $25 coupons, $100 in total, which is slightly more than the $99 fee. But a coupon only has value when you spend it on something you’d have bought anyway. And the pages we read don’t say whether the first coupon arrives on day one, when coupons expire, or whether a coupon and the 10% discount apply to the same order. So treat the figures below as best cases.

We built two scenarios from real one-time prices in our review data, as AppSumo’s listings showed them on 29 October 2026. Deals change and end, so check the listing for what’s live now.

Scenario 1: one deal. You buy Formly’s Plan 1 at $99.

  • 10% discount: $9.90.
  • One $25 coupon, if one has arrived and can be used on this order: $25.
  • Best-case saving: $34.90. Fee: $99. You’re $64.10 behind.

Scenario 2: a year of steady buying. You buy five neutral business tools over twelve months:

Deal (29 Oct 2026 price)Price
TidyCal Agency Lifetime$79
BreezeDoc Agency$49
Invoiless Lifetime$69
Formly Plan 2 (2 codes)$198
Stackby 3 codes$327
Total$722
  • 10% discount: $72.20. On its own, that’s $26.80 short of the fee.
  • Add all four $25 coupons: $172.20 saved, against a $99 fee. You’re $73.20 ahead.

In practice, the coupons decide the answer for most buyers in the $500 to $1,000 range. If you’ve used all four, Plus pays. If you’ve used none, you need close to $1,000 of orders.

What the shutdown cover adds. Stackby’s listing said it was covered by We Got Your Back on 29 October 2026. Under AppSumo’s guarantee, a covered Select tool that closes within 12 months returns 100% in AppSumo Credits to Plus members and 50% to everyone else. On $327, that’s the difference between $327 and $163.50 in credits. We don’t count this as a saving: it only pays if a tool closes, and it pays in store credit, not cash. Our guide on what happens if an AppSumo product shuts down explains the conditions, including the 30-day claim deadline.

How to run the sum for your own account

Your numbers will differ from ours, so here’s a quick way to test it before paying. It takes ten minutes with a notepad.

  1. List what you bought last year. Go through the purchases in your AppSumo account and add up every purchase from the past twelve months. If you’ve only joined recently, write down the deals you’re genuinely planning, not the ones you’re browsing.
  2. Take 10% of that total. That’s your discount value. Compare it with $99.
  3. Count the coupons honestly. Ask how many $25 coupons you’d really spend on tools you need. Two used coupons are worth $50; four unused ones are worth nothing.
  4. Subtract the refunds you expect. A deal you return inside its window probably shouldn’t count toward the discount you keep. AppSumo’s pages don’t spell out how a refunded order affects the 10%, so be cautious here.
  5. Look at the coverage lines. If your planned deals say “Not covered by We Got Your Back”, the extra shutdown cover adds nothing for them.

When you finish, you’ll have one figure: savings minus $99. Positive means Plus probably earns its fee. Negative means skip it this year and check again later.

Members-only deals and Plus Exclusives

The Plus page promises “Deals just for Plus” and “first dibs on new arrivals”. The We Got Your Back guarantee (last updated 31 August 2026) adds one rule about them: a Plus Exclusive is treated as a Select product for shutdown cover, but only if you bought it while it was listed as a Plus Exclusive. These perks are hard to price, since nobody can tell you in advance which tools will appear. We’d treat them as a bonus, not as part of the break-even sum.

Who AppSumo Plus suits

  • Regular buyers. If you buy software on AppSumo several times a year, the sum above usually works, especially on the Annual plan with coupons.
  • People who’ll use the coupons. Four $25 coupons a year are worth something only when you spend them on tools you need.
  • Buyers of larger, covered deals. If you buy expensive stacked tiers, the doubled shutdown credit is a real (if narrow) benefit.
  • Slow deciders. The extra time “even after the General-Access clock runs out” helps if you like to research before buying.

Who should skip it

  • One-deal buyers. Skip the membership if you came for a single tool; the fee is bigger than the discount.
  • Anyone who wants a refund option on the fee. It’s non-refundable once rewards are used.
  • People buying to justify the fee. Honestly, this is the trap. A membership that pushes you into deals you don’t need costs more than it saves.
  • Buyers relying on Plus Monthly for coupons. The FAQ says Monthly has “All the Plus perks except the quarterly $25 coupon”.

Common mistakes with AppSumo Plus

Joining after checkout. Discounts aren’t retroactive. Join first, then buy, if you’re going to join at all.

Counting the coupons before they arrive. They come every 90 days. Don’t forget that a $25 coupon you haven’t received yet can’t cut today’s order.

Forgetting it renews. It’s a subscription. When you sign up, put the renewal date in your calendar and decide before then.

Treating shutdown credits as money. The Terms of Use say AppSumo Credits “may not be returned or redeemed for cash.” It turns out the cover is valuable mainly if you’d keep shopping on AppSumo anyway.

Paying with credits. The FAQ says memberships can’t be bought with AppSumo Credits, so you’ll need a card or other payment method.

A short note on our coverage: we read AppSumo’s pages and each listing, then compare and explain. We haven’t bought a membership or redeemed these deals.

FAQ: AppSumo Plus questions

How much does AppSumo Plus cost?

The Plus page showed $99 a year on 31 October 2026, described as $8.25 a month billed annually. The FAQ also names Plus Monthly and Plus Pro Annual, but we didn’t find their prices on the pages we read today.

Can I get a refund on AppSumo Plus?

Plan on no. The Plus page says the membership is “non-refundable”, and the help center says it’s non-refundable after rewards have been used. Cancelling stops the next renewal but doesn’t refund the current period.

Does the 10% discount apply to past purchases?

No. AppSumo’s Plus refund policy says purchases made before you joined aren’t eligible for retroactive discounts. The same applies to We Got Your Back coverage.

How much do I need to spend for Plus to pay for itself?

On the 10% discount alone, $990 a year covers the $99 fee. If you use all four $25 coupons on the Annual plan, you can break even with far less, provided you’d have bought those deals anyway.

The short version

  • AppSumo Plus Annual costs $99 a year: 10% off, $100 in coupons, extra time on deals, better shutdown cover.
  • Discount-only break-even is $990 of spending; used coupons bring it down a lot.
  • The fee is non-refundable once you’ve used a reward, and discounts aren’t retroactive.
  • Shutdown cover pays 100% in credits on covered Select tools within 12 months, not cash.
  • Join if you buy several deals a year; skip it if you’re here for one.
